A trapped chest. When you open it the floor opens below you and you fall into lava.
Last night we were playing around in the End on a creative server she was running and we made a dispenser full of arrows that was attached to a rapidly pulsing redstone circuit. I put lava flow falling in front of the dispenser and voila...rapid fire flaming arrow cannon.

My problem is that once the porter is built the chest is no longer an accessible chest, (the lid does not open) and the contents are locked. Is there any way to open this up?
The other part of this idea was to reprogram Whitey's and Bul's central teleporting rooms send them off in random teleport pads in their empire. ...
Maizan.
I believe the teleporter DB only updates when you place the Quartz block. In theory, you could dig around the Quartz and destroy the chest and it would continue to send you to the same location.
I wonder if putting the quartz block on a sticky piston would cause an update....

She's been really into making new servers (which I'd rather just play here when we play) so I haven't been around enough to make it worth while.

I noticed that that village north of town / east of the UFO is empty. Anyone have some villages we can borrow to repopulate it?

I do and I've already connected some rail from my place to Joun that you are welcome to take a couple. Might have to extend the rail inside town a bit to make it easier to grab the townsfolk since the don't hang around where the rail is at currently.

I have some as well. I am connected on the same rail too, right to Jon's village from the last time we did this.

Both of you guys have been missed. It is very lonely on the server these days.

I've been so busy lately I've been just keeping the server operational, but I am NOT leaving. Lots I want to still do.

I spent a lot of time on my massive sorter, thought I had it all done correctly and then something messed up the first hopper and caused a major breakdown.
I haven't felt like fixing it so I haven't logged on in a few days.

My current plan is to build a large skull to be start of a castle complex in the mountains. Warning: when I finish, there will be traps that are lethal in nature. I will also put up signs to remind you as you approach.

Will the skull be gray? Because if you're going to build a skull castle I think you have a moral obligation to make sure it's gray.

I was considering grey stone and some obsidian for some spots.

Pulled the latest backups and restarted the server after clearing out the backup folder.

I've been debating creating a couple of towers and putting captured Ghasts at the top of them to do something similar.

are we transitioning to a minecraft arms race? Because I've wanted to build a redstone clock/tnt bomb for bulwark's bridge for a while now.

Too late, the TNT has already been placed. If you see an unfamiliar switch I'd suggest you don't pull it.
