Orus chapter 1: Strangers in a strange land

"Of course, that will be 22 silver total please? And would you like the meals served immediately or when your friends arrive?" she says with a smile

[Blackferne]

"If it isn't too much a bother, when our friends arrive." Maeve says handing over 25 silver and indicating she can keep the difference.

[OOC So any more small talk worth noting or are both of you pretty much just waiting for the wanderers to return. Not trying to rush things just figured I would ask in case things could be just moved forward.]

Waiting on innkeeper and you guys.

[Furiel]

After waiting for about half an hour the innkeeper comes down from upstairs, he does a quick survey of the common room, nods to himself and he heads into the kitchens.

Quawff and Darren have not returned yet and your ales are empty.

[Blackferne]

Wave down the waitress and ask if she can fetch the innkeep about a room.

[Furiel]

The serving maid comes over: "Rooms? I can't really help you with that but I'll ask. Did you want more ale and your meals now?"

[Blackferne]

"Well take the meals now. I'm feeling a bit hungry." Maeve says with a smile.

[Furiel]

"Of course, I'll be right back with those." The tavern maid scurries off into the kitchen, and a few minutes later she returns with 4 meals and 2 more ales. She smiles at you as she returns: "I hope your friends arrive before the stew gets cold. And Master Reken said he will be with you soon to discuss lodgings."

[Blackferne]

"Thank you and many blessings upon your diner table." Maeve smiles before saying grace quietly then eating her stew.

[Furiel]

When you are about half way through your stew the innkeeper comes out of the back and makes his way over to the table.

"I see you have returned and are inquiring about rooms eh. Well you are in luck this evening as I do have a couple available. How long will you be staying this time, just one night again?"

[Blackferne]

"Greetings, and blessings be upon your table. How long we are staying will be quite the question won't it. We have a meeting with the mayor in the morning, and I don't know if he'll be sending us off again. So let's say one night for now, and if luck should have it, we'll extend as needed. A quick question, last week when we were here it was very crowded, it seems a little less so now, have people returned to their homes?"

[Furiel]

Your walk through town would indicate likely not, it was just as crowded, or more so, when you returned.

"Oh no, they just started running out of coin and I don't run a charity here. That and word is starting to get out about the goblin problems so trade is starting to slow down a little bit. I hope you bring some good news for the mayor..."

[Blackferne]

"So where are most people sleeping? In the streets? Are they receiving food?" Maeve asks concerned.

[Furiel]

"I do know know, it's not my concern. I worry about my paying customers like yourself."

[Blackferne]

Maeve thinks for a moment.

"Sir, how much bread and fruit do you have to sell?" She asks. "Or how much food could I get for ten gold to distribute to the hungry tonight?"

[Whiteness]

Alrek puts his hand on her arm in a restraining gesture, "Maeve, a meal tonight doesn't change their situation. We're here in the nines name to solve the goblin problem not the people's money problem"

He turns to the innkeeper as he pulls his hand back "Actually, what I'd like to know is if you can give us a discounted rate if we agree to pay for a few days ahead."

[Furiel]

"Sorry but no discounts, but if you do pay in advance for multiple days I can guarantee you rooms, which I cannot otherwise do if you go day by day."

[Whiteness]

"Aw, come on pal. My dad always said, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. We'll pay for the night, but think on it good sir, and maybe if we come back again you might have a different answer"

ooc: he's really not trying to press for anything now, just an open mind later if possible.

"Alrek, I don't think you understand, letting people go hungry when I have means to get them something to eat is an affront to my goddess. Sleep in the street, ok I could be okay with that, but if people go hungry, that I cannot abide. I'm not spending party funds, this is my money." then turning to ghe inn keep, "I ask again, how much food that I could distribute, could I buy with 10 gold to feed the hungry tonight?"

When he confirms his suspicion to the limit to hiding spots will keep an eye out for any groups of homeless figuring he can quickly befriend them by sharing the spoils of a flask.

[OOC At this point will wait for Furiel to note us arrive at the Snuggling Duckling.]

Quawff really doesn't understand the difference between or really care if there is a difference between Darren and Mardak. He only sees him as a human and knows how to handle himself in a fight. He also knows that there are people that like to walk around quietly and in shadows and that there there is a need for them at times, but it is not his thing and he is not very good at it.

Also seeing that the walls are in very bad shape, he will look for good defensive spots around town and/or places where defensible barricades can be quickly setup if need be.

When through, Darren and he will had back to The Duckling, garb an empty table and order beer and food.

[ooc waiting for a queue to enter...}

"How many rooms would you be needing? The current rate is 1 gold per room, per night. As for food with 10 gold, you could feed probably 5 or 6 families for dinner tonight, but how would you choose who to feed and who not?"

[Blackferne]

"Two rooms." Maeve hands him 2 gold from the party pouch. "We'll feed the first hungry families we find. Here is the money, let me go find some mouths for the food. The waitress said it was 22 silver for 4 dinner specials and 4 ales. 10 gold should equate to 18 dinners with ale. I'm going to find 18 people and those who come in and tell the waitress the meal is from the goddess Chauntea will receive the dinner special. Is that agreeable?" Maeve takes 10 gold from her personal pouch and has in her hand waiting for the innkeep to say he agrees to this.

[Furiel]

"It's your coin..."
The inkeeper takes the coin and heads back toward the kitchen again
