Stavis will quickly respond back having been waiting for this communication for quite a while in a whisper. "Good to hear you all are out of town. Understood on the extra baggage, do they know we are headed to Quicksilver and are geared and ready for cold weather?"

@Tony for his answer No and kind of winter ready (not as much as you guys but passable).

We're going to move east as quickly as practical, trying to avoid patrols, obviously. I think we'll all be keeping a bit of an eye on our new companions.

The party makes it's way east and hits the river separating it from where Stavis and the road to silverdeep are. You do not see any patrols and the river is probably 100 yards across. Richard mentions that there isn't another bridge (excluding the one in Brackton) for another 5 or 6 miles and he is pretty sure it is going to be guarded.

Franklin says "Typically it would have a squad of 8 men. We might be able to talk our way through depending on how much of a hardass their leader is about orders. That is the thing we don't know."

Victae adds "Regardless with the cold, swimming the river would be less than preferred because we'd need to immediately start a fire to warm up and dry out."

Note the temperature is low 30s, there is light snow on the ground in patches, and the water would be very very cold.

Is there wood/trees that we could use to make a raft?

Yeah you guys are in a wooded area and can cut down trees, skip and jump, press wild flowers, wear womens clothing or hang around in bars.

"You want to make a raft? Hmm." Trinal looks at the river. "That's an awfully wide river; we'd be swept downstream quite a ways before we could get across. If it was narrower I could fly across with a rope to pull a raft, but it's at least 3 times further than I could go."

Let's move toward the bridge and if we find a better place to cross we can take advantage of it.

Moving southeast along the river you don't find much in the way of narrow or shallower before you reach the bridge. There are two guards on each side of the bridge and four sitting on the bridge fishing.

"Aw shit." Franklin says. "This is Miller's squad. He's corrupt and a hardass about rules. So it is anyone's guess on how he will respond to sweet talk. He might solicit a bribe, or he might stonewall, or do one and then the other."

Victae looks at her Glaive which still has a few drops of blood on it. "Well I haven't killed anyone today, so..."

Richard leans to Tony "Is she right in the head?"

"How does he and his squad feel about that fake god?"

Then to Richard
"We're adventurers, we go from place to place with few attachments, looking for danger to go run headlong toward for people we barely know on the promise of some payment after. What about that kind of lifestyle lends itself to a completely normal and well adjusted person?"

"No idea. some people are into Bha'al, others just sort of play along. I've heard of some people who pray and worship the Raven Queen in private. You never know where their heart lies." Franklin says.

Richard to Tony "Good point about the adventurers."

Ooc I'm out of the office for a bit will respond in a bit.

"OK, let's at least try to talk our way across. Probably won't work but it's worth a try. Are you two going to have any problem backing us up?"

Glancing at the fishing guards, Trinal smiles a little. "If I were to guess, fishing on duty's not allowed, right? "

Richard and Franklin say they will back you up.

Well, nothing for it but to do it. We'll approach the bridge. We walk as though we have every right to be here and just march on up to it.

As you approach the bridge one of the guards raises their hand and asks you to stop. The other asks you to identify yourselves and what you are doing out here.
