Darf Jarjar wants to fill his ship with water to make swim swim happy splash time.
Me say "if you do that you ship no work"
He say but but but I do maths!
I say "just wait and get a big baftub when you get to Bryx"
Clear enough?
I wanted to make "swim swim happy hour time" but close enough.

This reminds me.. last night I was playing WoW as I often do and I was fishing (to make raiding mats) when I fished up an empty rum bottle
http://www.wowhead.com/item=45195
So I asked in guildchat "So look what I fished up." And somebody asked why it was empty, and I asked if I looked like CSI: Twilight Highlands. and then I said "Looks like somebody decided to drink and dive" (put on sunglasses) YEEEEAAAAHHHHHH!
Sorry dumb post for a dumb joke but I was amused.

Just out of curiosity, what would the effects of an explosive have on something like a body frozen in carbonite?

I check the ship schematics for the feasibility of half filling the hold with water for a swimming pool.
Looking at pg 98 of the KOTOR supplement you will notice that your cargo hold is basically the lower floor of your ship. So the problems are: Do you open the boarding ramps and try to pilot the ship low enough into a body of water to fill it up half way? Do you just get a hose and pump set up to come in from the top hatch of the ship past the top floor and down into the bottom? And finally how much would all that water weigh? Well a cubic meter of water at 4 degrees Celsius weighs approximately 1 metric ton. Your cargo hold is approximately 72 square meters of floor space. And you ship can hold 40 tons of cargo. So if you still wanted to be able to take off you would need to only have water at about half a meter deep. Now when you stop I'm sure you can buy materials for a proper pool to be installed in your ship should you desire, but the ad-hoc pool you suggest is problematic if you want a decent swimming experience.
A) In Hyperspace I suspect that there is a lack of water.
B) The tonnage of the ship is a measure of volume and not weight isn't it? A measurement ton is 40 cubic feet (1.133 cubic meters) so wouldn't 40 tons = 45 cubic meters.
C) The floor space isn't fully usable for cargo. There needs to be room to move around, secure the cargo, etc. I would guess that only about 2/3 of the floor space would actually be taken up with cargo when filled.
Yes, I agree that a kiddie pool is a better solution.
A) Yes
B) Page 175 of the core rule book just says "Cargo is the amount of cargo the vehicle can carry". Given that a ton can be both volume and weight it could be either volume or weight and the vagueness of the Rulebook puts us at a disadvantage at trying to figure out which is meant. I'm going to basically say it is a hybrid approach based on the vehicle's intended usage. Given your transport is expected to have a component of atmospheric flight weight would matter a lot.
C) Again you are correct, but filling it with water means you are taking the broadest use of space. So the approx 72sqmeters matters.
Kiddie pool is a better solution. I hear So Leet wants to go shopping for construction supplies, so he might meet some workers willing to contract that out.

Pulling on my vast experience GMing Star Wars campaigns and using lore to say why you can't do it...some of those cargo limits are also placed due to thinks like repulsorlifts, hull bracing, inertial dampeners, etc. where if you tried to make a pool out of a quarter of your cargo bay then the sheer water weight that would create stresses on the ship would be far in excess of the fault tolerance of those components, so unless you want to spend a huge sum of credits upgrading those items or never be able to go atmospheric again you're going to have to continue with the kiddie pool plan.

Depending on the proximity and intensity of the explosive force it could be nothing or lethal, or more likely somewhere in between.

As for the commlink conundrum, I think if we all get basic datapads we can do what Arrican was assuming. They'd be dumb terminals where the regular datapads are comparable to smartphones.

Note to the Forehead: You are the only one (AFAIK) with a datapad.
Also I wasn't at a computer from 2pm on last night. So there was approximately 0.00000000000000326% chance that I'd be posting anything.
Just my $.02, when that image was taken the concept of email was know to only a few inside if academia and not the world at large. Also when Lucas told the props department to come up with a handheld communication device, they went to their spare parts bin, grabbed some pvp pipe, a faucet filter and a bicycle handgrip, stuck it together and said "Here you go George. It isn't like some dude is going to point to a picture of this 35 years later as evidence that this is all a comlink can be. It isn't like people will ever be carrying around phones or computers."
I think they should have the rough capabilities of a modern smartphone but in a smaller package.

I'm not interested in retconning all of Star Wars' little quirks because it was created in 1977. In the end, I didn't respond because I was fucking busy.

That is not true.
Those races were totally fine and fair to bet on. Whitey is in a particular RP moment where gambling is secondary. And So Leet/Wailer were getting away with financial
MURDER.

All right, the plan is in motion. I'm going to run and lead these guys back to the ship so we can beat them and take their place as guards to make it inside Kunga's.
yes, just as planned
