Like the old Dynmap on the old server?
I'm just curious.

Not at the moment; I shut down the old map server some time ago. It was taking a LOT of room and processing power to generate them.
However, I can look into putting it back into play if there's interest.

is there a map that is not real time. Like, something that takes a snapshot once a night?

Re: Do we have a map of the server?
Well, the previous one was like that- it was generated on a regular basis by a script job. The issue was that it took a lot of processing power and a ton of memory to build all the tiles and stuff- and since the main server is pretty much maxed out on its memory to run the main Minecraft server, I had it set up with another box that would pull the server's data files using a sync job, then would generate all the map tiles and information, then send that back to the main minecraft server (it had enough hard drive space) running a lightweight HTTPD (I think I used Apache for a while and some other one at one point) to serve up the data.
Anyway, it basically needs a separate machine to generate the map, or a much beefier instance of our current machine (2-3 the RAM). I'll see if I can cobble something together on a low-cost server instance that might take more time to generate and could only do it once a day. I'm sure it's doable.

Nah, it was easy to set up- took an afternoon the first time but I could do it a LOT faster now. And it really provided a great resource. It was just a cost issue, I'm sorry to say. But maybe we can work something up now.
On another note, Spongepowered is now in official beta which means- bukkit-type plugins and customizations are possibly available. How do we feel about that?

I don't know what that means, but if it means I can build an airship and shoot arrows broadside at Bulwark, I'm game.

Unless you are talking about an airship that moves you can do that now Joun just need item dispensers and redstone switch with repeaters.

Heh. Not sure that's available, but if you remember we had teleportation plugins and some utility stuff before Bukkit... kicked the bucket, so to speak. Spongepowered is a new API for Minecraft servers that allows for similar plugin and mod functionality, so we have some options if we want mobility or utility plugins on the server again.

Staris I'm fine building the redstone dispenser stuff. I was specifically thinking moveable blimp stuff.
The teleport stuff was good. Not sure if we want to go back to that or not. I don't play a whole bunch (except binges) so I don't want to be the driver on that.

I'd at least like to have the /home functionality in place. we have a pretty good rail/portal system going right now. no need to complicate things.

I'm renting a server for my daughter and it uses bukkit.Jimer Lins wrote:Heh. Re: Do we have a map of the server?
not exactly the same quality of dynmap, but I added some in-game maps of the area in the town hall.
