So everyone remembers dynmap, right? And how awesome it was having that automatically updated map?
Whiteness has found a tool called "Overviewer" that generates a very similar map. It renders offline using the data from the server world.
I set up a small VPS for doing Chunky renders, so when I have some time later today I'm going to set it up to render our maps using a private network- which means no data transfer cap issues. So I can pull the backups, generate a map, and then copy the map to the web server with scripts and the 3GB+ size won't matter to our bandwidth cap.
When it's time to do the configuration there will be a brief downtime on the server as I will have to reboot it at least once to add the private network interface and set up web services. Shouldn't take long, but I wanted to give you all a heads-up.

Re: Maps!
This one was generated manually- I need to write the scripts to rysnc the server to the render box, generate the maps and rsync the map data back. All the commands work, it's just a question of automating them now.

OK, maps should update twice a day now- at 11 AM GMT and 11 PM GMT.

The HTTP service was stopped, not sure why. I've restarted it.

Re: Maps!
Maps seem to be down again. I'm trying to convince my college room mate bruce to join, seeing what we've done might make him not so afraid of the survival mode.

Re: Maps!
I took the map server offline in a recent server reshuffle. I'll try to get it running again this week; it was costing 15 bucks a month because it takes so much memory and disk space, so I had to run it on a separate VPS. I'll see if I can spin it back up on a new VPS. My apologies!

Re: Maps!
Oh I'm not that desperate to get the maps up. Especially if is going to be a hassle.

Re: Maps!
It's not so much a hassle, it runs itself- it's just the cost. We just went through our second bankruptcy (long story, medical debt sucks) and money's been tight, so I dropped the VPS as it would save some bucks. However, I can probably make room in the budget for it again starting soon.

Re: Maps!
Hey Jimer, what are the server and space requirements to host the maps stuff?
I might be able to put in under one of my business domains at GoDaddy, both are Linux based hosting.
