I've slowed down a bit on keep up with the game but I do still follow it pretty well and will get more into it again when the game gets closer to releasing the full game but I have kept up my Imperator subscription.

Application submitted!
Staris, is your Andromeda your end game ship? For me it is, I love that variant.
I'd consider going into business with a few players on a merchantman way after launch but otherwise I think this variant of Coni is my ideal for when the PU goes live.
Marrkin, go log in and do some flying! I'm assuming it's been awhile and they've made some great improvements to the overall ship combat system. Racing is fun as well.

Re: Alvis SC roll call
The Constellation is going to be my end game ship, in that is will be my jack of all trades that I customize for the role I want to to be at that time with the others tailored to specific roles. I am tempted to upgrade my Constellation to one of the variants though true be told more for the ground crawler I just haven't yet because I really don't like the drawbacks of the others so far.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
Yeah, biggest reason I stayed with the Andromeda is I was not a fan of the variants and with CIG's more modular design plans in the works across all ships I think I'll get the most out of that Coni.Staris wrote:The Constellation is going to be my end game ship, in that is will be my jack of all trades that I customize for the role I want to to be at that time with the others tailored to specific roles. Also love having a snub fighter for support. Fingers crossed though that the Merlin is viable in a fight. I figure if she's fast enough to outrun say a Hornet I can use her to lead targets to my Coni's big guns.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
Yea hope so. Figured I would try and use it as a surgical stick on enemy ships like take out engines or weapons so the enemy is easier to take out with the Constellation. Hopefully the upgraded snub fighters the other variants have can be swapped with the Merlin if it proves a little too under-powered.Yimayz wrote:Yeah, biggest reason I stayed with the Andromeda is I was not a fan of the variants and with CIG's more modular design plans in the works across all ships I think I'll get the most out of that Coni.Staris wrote:The Constellation is going to be my end game ship, in that is will be my jack of all trades that I customize for the role I want to to be at that time with the others tailored to specific roles. With as many as I think we will have, will be interesting to have a convoy of just Conis going around.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
Aside from the Andromeda only the Phoenix has a snub fighter (P72 Archimedes).Staris wrote:Yea hope so. Speaking of the Phoenix it also as a rover AND a Class 9 automatic point-defense gun which is kind of a bummer because I hate the luxury touring aspect of it. The Aquila has better scanners, long range fuel tanks and the rover but no fighter and the Taurus has nothing but an expanded cargo hull. This was basically why I stayed with the Andromeda. Best all around IMO.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
Is this game worth buying into? I was looking at the packages, is the avenger any good?
Re: Alvis SC roll call
I think it is. With the Area Commander live at this point I would suggest looking up player videos and I think but could be wrong that the Avenger is one of the ships you can use in it.Bulwark wrote:Is this game worth buying into? I was looking at the packages, is the avenger any good?
The Avenger is as I understand it is one of the top in terms of weapon strength with speed in the small class ships, good at exploration in its class besides those that focused on exploration, and good on storage though probably still more on the small delivery side of things though maybe into the medium.
The jobs it would be good at would include convey defence, bounty hunter, exploring, and maybe racer.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
Hey guys,
I'm still around. I'll go check up on the organization aspect of things. As of this moment, I have a Andromeda, a Hornet Stalker, and a Freelancer DUR. I did have a retaliator, but I sold that a couple of months ago. I may go for one of the larger ships, but I'm unsure at this point.
Also Bulwark, you don't have to buy the expensive ships or anything. You can just buy the basic arena commander package for like $50. You'll get to fly the Aurora and such and be able to play the Arena Commander module.
And if you like, I have some coupon codes - %15 off SR38VGJPWF or SR0OPEZRGH

Re: Alvis SC roll call
Is it better to buy a small ship now and wait for the game to come out for something larger, or start with a large ship, or do both? The Constellation looks cool, but it's also $275.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
A mix will probably be wanted but that doesn't mean you have to pay cash for all if it. If that means you buy something smaller and earn a larger ship when the game comes out great. It can also depend on what you want to do, there isn't a ship that will be the best at everything. The Avenger is a much better ship for bounty hunting and racing then the Constellation.Bulwark wrote:Is it better to buy a small ship now and wait for the game to come out for something larger, or start with a large ship, or do both? For me I know I'm not interested today in bounty hunting and my M50 Interceptor is geared towards racing so the Avenger isn't really a ship that interests me right now but there are other ships I am interested, some that can't even be bought today, that I currently don't plan on buying with cash but look to pay for in game at some point.
Having a larger ship isn't always the best for all situations the Constellation has a large amount of cargo space with a respectable weaponry but sacrifices on speed and maneuverability. Could have a merchant convey that is nothing but Conis but will probably be found to be more profitable with a mix of cargo ships and and smaller more agile defenders as too many large ships carrying the same resource runs the risk of flooding a market devaluing the cargo they carry unless an area is completely out of said resource.
Though the Constellation can do exploration there will be un-mapped jump points that it won't be able to map requiring smaller ship to be able to map them. That is something I plan on doing so will either do what limited exploring I can do which is still plenty am leaning towards making my Freelancer exploration and mapping focused.
That isn't so say if your heart is set on getting a Constellation that you shouldn't even if a lot of us do, just making sure you know that any ship bought will have a usefulness. The big question being is that usefulness something your wanting to do.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
If you're interested in the game, you could get by with just an Aurora base package with Arena Commander access. The Avenger most likely won't be /that/ big of an upgrade from the Aurora, though it looks cool. If it turns out you like how the Arena Commander is coded, then you can look at picking up a bigger ship, though it really depends on what you want to do. Also, it doesn't make sense for all of us to be packing Constellations, as we would then all be piloting different ships and such, rather than actually playing together.
It really just depends on your style of play. I would personally go for the Hornet or Cutlass over the Avenger, but since you're still on the fence, I'd just pick up the base game and see how your interest goes from there. If you don't like it, then you're simply out the price of a game rather than investing quite a bit into it.

Re: Alvis SC roll call
I picked up the Avenger this morning. I read that a weeks worth of gaming should get you enough $$$ to get a constellation, so I'm not going to buy anything bigger.
Once in the game, I think I'll go for a Caterpillar. It has no manned turrets, so should be able to be effective in solo play.
I also read that they are planning to downgrade the nose gun on the Avenger from S5 to something smaller We'll see how it goes.

Re: Alvis SC roll call
Caterpillar is a good choice though don't feel that as a solo player can't use multi-crew ships as you can hire npcs as crew members. I'll be hiring ncs myself with the exception of the npc that's setup as my benefactor so that when my current toon dies I already have the next lined-up.Bulwark wrote:I picked up the Avenger this morning. Re: Alvis SC roll call
Bulwark just keep in mind the game is pre-alpha. I've seen people freak out on the forums over a buggy patch (for example). They're all pissed because they spent XYZ $$ and are owed something...blaaa, blaa.
The full game is not going live for at least another year or so and as backers we're basically along for the ride while helping them test.
Did you buy a ship package or a stand alone ship and an arena pass?

Nice and the Avenger is a cool ship.Bulwark wrote:Ship package
What do you think so far?
Re: Alvis SC roll call
Still getting use to it. My flying skills are a little rusty, and I've read that the Avenger is not the best ship to learn to dogfight in (spool up time on main gun, weapons don't converge, low damage output, etc) but I'm learning.
Re: Alvis SC roll call
If memory serves me the Avenger should fly similar to the 300 series and if that's correct I found the 300's to be a little too loose on the stick for my tastes. I've been using my Hornet almost exclusively in AC and I love, love, love how that ship handles. I was bummed to lose the canard turret when the variants went live in 1.0 (I'm flying a ghost). But I will say it looks like they did a really solid job on ship balance because my Ghost with just the T2 wing guns does a fair amount of damage and the lower signature it gives off looks to be keeping me off the Vanduul's rader at times. How that will translate to PVP I'm not sure yet (haven't had time to jump into player combat since the patch).Bulwark wrote:Still getting use to it. I also have a Mustang which I swapped over from an Aurora and while not as tough as my Ghost I'm having fun flying her as well.

Re: Alvis SC roll call
Looks like I need to give it another whirl soon. I tried AC right after it came out and the controls were a complete nightmare. Hopefully that's improved some.
