Helpful hints

Post by Bulwark » Tue Feb 17, 2015 9:38 pm

I thought we had this thread already, but I couldn't find it. Anyways, here are a few helpful hints.

1) double tapping your forward key will make you run. Running while jumping is even faster, but uses food and a very high rate. You'll be down to 3 food in no time.
2) holding down shift prevents you from falling off a block, as long as you don't mine the block you are standing on.
3) drinking milk remove debuffs (like mining fatigue)

For 5 minutes mining anything takes X times longer. I don't remember how much longer but I think it took me a full minute to mine a block of something.

Elder Guardians from the ocean monuments will hit you with it from 50 blocks away even if you're not in water with them.

Holding shift is going into stealth, you move slower and thus allows you to get closer to a mob before they are alerted.

The other thing to know is stealthing is not perfect at keeping your from falling off in all situations as you are able to extend yourself beyond the true boundary of the block, if you move to a corner you can still end up falling off since you are technically double extending on two different axis at that point.

A nice thing is if you stop stealthing and where extended beyond the blocks boundary you wont fall off but it can require moving to a safe point before you can stealth again, don't know how many times I've fallen off my tree farm building during construction because of that.

Finally and something I just recently figured out you can hold your position on a ladder and have been using that to dig down to my desired diamond mining levels without fear of falling to my death should I dig down to a canyon or pool of lava.

Also milk cures being poisoned as well not just mining fatigue I always have a bucket of water and milk when I go mining in case I find a cave spider spawner.

The ALT key toggles running as long as you hold it down.
Fire Resistance potions can let you swim in lava for up to 8 minutes if you have a Fire Resist II.
Splash potions of damage are very useful in the right situations.
Splash healing potions can be thrown at your feet for a quick boost in emergencies- faster than drinking one.
Regeneration potions are excellent at helping you offset DOTs from witches and Wither Skeletons.
Enchant books instead of items- you won't get any multi-enchantments and it's a little less efficient but you can decide what you want on what item and save the extras for later.
A man may fight for many things. His country, his friends, his principles, the glistening tear on the cheek of a golden child. But personally, I'd mud-wrestle my own mother for a ton of cash, an amusing clock and a sack of French porn. - Edmund Blackadder

When moving horses through nether portals, they sometimes get stuck in the obsidian on the opposite side and suffocate to death. If you attach a lead to the horse, you can pull it out of the obsidian.
