Whoa, lag!

Post by Indigo » Fri Oct 03, 2014 6:16 pm

I signed on a minute ago and the game was acting weird. There was a creeper in town and it managed to blow up on me while I was dealing with major lag....so there is a hole in the middle of town. It was lagging so bad I couldn't repair it so I signed off.

I saw a creeper spawn on top of one of the light posts. The distance between the day sensor and the lights is too long and gives them time to spawn. We may want ot think about removing them.

That's weird. I can probably modify the lightposts to make sure the light level up top stays high.

As to lag, I think it's our hosting provider being crappy again. I'll check into the issues, I'm sorry it's been happening.

I fixed the hole near your treehouse, Indigo- sorry about that. I also put torches on top of the lightposts.

I might just need to restart my computer or something...no worries. I just didn't want to be a dick and leave a big hole in the middle of everything. :P

Eh, the hole was just near your house and didn't do any damage to anything major.

Something I've noticed is that the lag seems to get worse around the nether portal, or at least there's a burst of it whenever I show up in that area. I'm not sure why, I'm going to look into if it's a known issue with Minecraft or 1.8.

Also, just for safety I restarted the server.

I wonder if turning off particles would help?

I don't think so... it typically doesn't happen only when it's night. I'm not seeing any errors in the server log indicating problems, so I'm forced to conclude our hosting provider isn't giving their VPS systems enough juice.

I played some tonight and didn't notice any lag. It looks like the host resolved whatever problems they were having.
