Disposal Signs
You can make a "disposal" by putting up a sign and on the first line putting the text "[Disposal]" without the quotes. The text will turn blue if you did it right.
Then you can access the sign like a chest. ANYTHING YOU PUT IN IT IS GONE FOREVER ONCE YOU CLOSE THE INTERFACE.
So if you have a lot of junk it's hard to get rid of, now you have a way to get rid of it.But remember, it's a one-way trip.

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
Hey folks. I'm thinking of making a change, to remove the teleportation and warp commands, and replace them with this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKvkwrZeB7Q&noredirect=1
I really like this idea because it's more in-game oriented, lets you build your own portals, and still preserves the utility of things like transportation and mounts (horses).
Your thoughts?
Edit: The block type the portals are made out of is configurable. So we don't have to require it to be lapis- something a bit easier to get, like Nether Quartz blocks, Redstone blocks, or something else. Something a little less common than dirt, but not as rare as lapis or diamond. I'm open to suggestions.

Don't forget to check your mailboxes. You can use /warp postoffice to get to the Post Office quickly. Your mailbox's light will be on if there's something in it!

Portals Plugin Added
OK, I added the Portal plugin. See the video above for an example of how it works.
Some notes for how it works on our server:
* You must use STONE BRICKS for the portals, NOT Lapis.
* Stone bricks can be made by cooking cobblestone in a furnace to get stone, then combining 4 stone for stone bricks blocks.
* The contents of the chest on the back are the "key" that links the portals. It must be unique.
* Portals can only link one to one.
* There is a special portal in town. It can be linked to by more than one other portal. This allows you to build a portal at your house or whatever that lets you go to and from town quickly. Use a single dirt block for this.
* If you use the portal in town, if you go back into it, you'll be taken back to your entry portal.
* Build as many portals as you like.
* The KEY IS CRITICAL. This is what links the two portals.
* The position of the item(s) in the chest is not important. Quantity is.
* The portals are created when you place the door, not when you put stuff in the chest.
Let me know if you have questions! I'll be disabling the /home, /warp, and other teleport commands soon, because this is intended to take their place. One thing that this will do is make it a little harder to escape from combat using the /home command, something I found myself doing.
You can carry the materials for a portal with you and make one wherever, including in other worlds (nether and the end).
Enjoy!

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
Would it be possible to creat a special user class which still can use /home? I'm thinking of my daughter who might get frustrated if she couldn't just do /home anymore and was lost.

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
I can keep /home, sure. How do you guys feel about /back? Because without it, if you die somewhere you can't get to quickly, you could lose a lot of items. Of course, it also would prevent spamming /back on death and just zerging whatever mob you killed to death. It increases the risk a bit, but I think improves the gameplay immensely. However, I'll rely on the group consensus.

Re: Minecraft Server Thread
Losing the /back would probably suck if you're down in the middle of nowhere with valuable metals. It's happened to me before.
Given the range of players and age ranges on the server, my vote is that we keep all features as is.

I vote you remove all warp commands and abilities and make it a perma-death server!

All right, server's back up.
Check it out: http://rivendell.cyclometh.com/dynmap A real-time map in flat, 3d isometric and underground views.
Right now the server is generating the tiles, so it may take a bit to catch up to everything but it shouldn't take too long.

Those still have uses though. Evading mobs at night if you are off exploring for example.Whiteness wrote:sweet map, now I don't have to build my 1x1 towers to get a bird's eye view

You can also see where I've been carving eventual right-of-ways for roads as the main town expands.

New players inbound- we may have a couple of new people joining us. So if you see some fresh faces on the server, say hello!

@Starel
I notice in your village you have some villagers. If you are okay with it I would like to "borrow" them to populate my Iron Golem Harvester. As a down payment I left you a present in your enchanting room. In addition once I have sufficient iron and wood I will link your village to Jimer's via railway.

When I use the single dirt block and create a portal, it says Could not create portal; inventory in use. Any ideas what I am missing?
