Star Wars Question regarding Canon

Post by Blackferne » Fri Apr 17, 2015 2:52 pm

Hypothetical situation:
You are called into Disney's office and you have to decide for them whether to:

a) Go back to the Pre-Special editions of the original Trilogy (ie Han shoots first)

or

b) they scrap the Prequels and rewrite and remake them with a dream team of writers in directors (you want Whedon, we'll get him. You want Fincher, Spielberg, whomever we can make it happen)

They say you can have either but not both. What do you choose?

I could live with all the Special edition changes, except Han not shooting first.

I could also live without the prequels.

tough call

Going to have to go with B cause they are coming out the a new digital remaster for 4-6 so no sense asking for a change that may well be in the new version anyway. Though I will say don't remove Jar Jar just make him less annoying as that was an enjoyable perk to help the Empire attack the Gungans in Galaxies.

b, without hesitation. The prequels were amazing eye-candy, and added some color to the overall saga but fell short of my expectations story wise.

Most fans agree that Han shot first, even if the 5th version of the special edition disagrees...

Let me get this straight, I have the opportunity to erase Hayden Christianson from the prequels in exchange for giving up Han shot first? That's an easy call... Sorry Han.

Dood simply refuses to accept the prequels exist currently and he gets VERY agitated if you suggest the special editions weren't that bad. Jess was also a Han must shoot first person.

It's easy to ignore the prequels for me. I've seen 1 a few times and the other two I watched each through once paying attention and a second time where I was busy doing other things and didn't catch more than half of each.

I can't remember when I last watched the special editions, I never upgraded from VHS.

B Han's down. Just say no to robot armies, Jar Jar and Pod Racing.

can't I take option C and just make more new movies with a dream cast? As bad as the prequels were, I'd rather have new movies than rehash old ones.

What is your stance on trade negotiations and senate politics?

Isn't Option C what we are getting now? Ep 7, a stand alone Yoda movie, a Boba Fett movie rumored etc?

Yeah, that's the main reason I can't go with B.
