LPDnd: As Time Goes By

Post by Blackferne » Mon May 01, 2017 2:13 pm

With Maizan at home polishing his bits n pieces. Also cleaning his armor, the rest of the party heads to the dinner.

The Professor escorts you via coach to a fancy villa estate just outside of town overlooking the castle from the hill. There are many wagons bringing in wealthy and influential people. Through the opening doors you walk into a hall alreadly milling with people chatting and drinking libations. The professor immediately is set upon by General Watson.

"Ah I see that the Phoenix Guard has arrived. Excellent. We are most pleased that you are here. We've got quite the assortment of nobles and military leaders. We have a few folks from the Arcana Conservatory, a few ambassadors from outlying kindgoms are in attendence. And later I believe Prince Jere is planning on stopping by to present the guard with a token of the appreciation of his brother, King Gavin. The plan is pretty simple. There is some chit chat, we'll introduce you from the head table in the main hall, some dancing, then some dinner. Presentation of the token, then people will probably start peeling off for the evening. I'm very grateful that the King allowe dus one of his minor estates for the party. It was very generous of him. I was a bit shocked how many people wanted to attend though to be honest. You guys are the toast of the town." Watson says patting you on the shoulders.

Stavis will greet Watson when it is his turn and will mingle with the guests with a slight air of Nobility as he falls back to childhood training as he has tended be one of the performers rather than focus of the party, though looking a bit off with the mask of Erevan. He will make his way to the performers a couple times teaching them the lyrics of the pieces he made about the Phoenix Guard if they are doing more than just background music but not so much to be unsociable.

During the time of the dancing will spend most of his time playing with the performers as he can probably wing the dancing but not something he is used to doing so would rather play in the band where he is more comfortable.

When appropriate, Trinal nods politely to the General. "General, it's a pleasure to see you. I know I speak for our entire company when I say we're both humbled and grateful for this honor you do us."

@Stavis The band leader is very happy about your coming to teach them a new song. They invite you to play along (I'm assuming you've brought your instrument) as much as you'd like. Please feel free to share how the songs go.

@Trinal "Trinal, you did what some would consider impossible, I for one owe you a debt because since I commissioned your initial expedition, I've gotten some status and that has indicated my future is bright as well. Beyond that, this city, in fact the whole allance needs heroes. People who can inspire, who can do great things. I think about the legends my pappy told me as a child while we we're fishing in the creek. The heroes fighting off teh demons and saving the princess. Achieving glory through cunning and bravery. Seeing your gate, has made me feel like a child again in that regard. I'm believing. So drink, socialize, dance, and in time we'll feast!"

@Maizan....time passes slowly.

"We're all happy to be able to help in the struggle against the enemy. And I'm very much looking forward to an enjoyable evening."

Trinal will make polite conversation for a bit, then mingle as appropriate.

Stavis did bring his lyre that way he could be the one to sing the tales as nessesary and would have tried to keep the new tales using tunes he was accustomed to, modify as necessary, to help new bards learn them quickly. Wouldn't necessarily mean only tunes that existed 80 years ago as I would assume he would have picked up some as a part of interacting with other bards at the different taverns since their return but would have included them.

He would focus heavily on the tale of them rescuing the Bishop of Avandra at Brackton, as he had written that one at the Lodge so would be the most polished.

Will add he would have made and effort to see if the King of Silver Deep was present or a retainer.

@Trinal you work your way around, grab a libation and notice Mr. Zecas talking to a middle aged man in very fancy robes. His golden blonde hair is in no danger of receding and he has a great smile he's using to great affect on the person you presume to be Mr. Zecas' wife, a white haired woman who despite her age looks to be in great shape. She has aged wonderfully.

@Stavis, the songs you know are easy and the songs you don't are quick to pickup. You hear a few of the musicians in the back between songs whispering about how interesting it is for a bard to be such an adeventuring type. You also notice a few dwarves sitting near the cask of ale on the far wall.

When Stavis feels this will be the last time with the band will comment to them "It is good as a way to be there to write the tales for posterity so would suggest for those that feel adventurous, He will lift his mask enough that only they can see he is a drow though for me a bit of a necessity to be ever on the move."

After that will preposition his mask, bow in thanks in getting to join the band and make his way to the dwarfs.

Blowing slightly "Greetings good sirs, I don't know if you all have heard all that the group has been responsible for but on our way to the Citadel we made a stop at Silver Deep. Would any know where or how to get in contact with the King of Silver Deep or a retainer so that the Phoenix Guard may make reparations for the materials used in the construction of the gate at the Citadel."

@Stavis The band's eyes widen at the reveal, but it is more of a "huh, makes you think" than horror.

You work your way over to the Dwarves and look up from their table and the youngest says "You were in Silverdeep? Must be a nutter. That place was levelled beyond repair. Those Army of Blood bastards with their mighty sorceror should land in a fiery pit in the afterworld for what they did. May their souls burn restless on the slags of ever torment." There is some nods of agreement. An older one extends his hand "Forgive my friend here, we all lost folk in the cave in, and he lost everyone. It still stings. We know where the King is, and can take you to him if you like, but he's gona bit paranoid in exile and requires certain precautions. If you are looking to make restitution for some kind, you best approach his nephew Almuth. He's usually helping out at the temple of Kord."

Stavis will shack his head no, though pausing slightly before extending his hand in return "No need to excuse your friend, as the sentiment is shared among the group and something I feel the group will see to that the sorceror is forcibly removed from this realm to receive his just due in the not too distant future."

"I will do as you suggest to seek out Almuth in the coming days to make restitution, as I feel it would be... unwise to future burden the King with my presence than nessisary."

He will bow more deeply than his greeting "I do offer my humble apologies should my broaching the topic has soured this evenings festivities for you all and though it may be presumptuous of me, but I do not feel the township beyond repair and will seek with blessing that one of the next gates made be at Silverdeep."

"The sound of Silverdeep hammer falls is a beautiful sound sourly missing from this realm."

Unless otherwise stopped will excuse himself from the group heading towards any foods available before mingle with the rest of the crowd.

Tony will say hi to General Watson, "The toast of the town huh? Never let it be said Tony Plush or The Phoenix Guard do things by half measures."
Tony will shake his hand and then move to grab a drink and start mingling, and by mingling Tony obviously means looking for unattached ladies to "talk" with.

At an appropriate point in the conversation, Trinal will say "Mr. Zecas, it's wonderful to see you again. I'm very pleased you were able to come to this celebration." He will smile at the others and nod politely.

@Trinal Mr. Zecas nods and says, "Allow me to introduce my wife Agatha. And this gentle-" he is cut off by the other man "Ah this is the chap you were telling me about? Trinal, please to meet you. My name is Alister Bertram, collector of magical artifacts and expert of the arcane arts." He enthusiastically shakes your hand before throwing his arm around your shoulder and bringing you in for a side hug. "My boy, I see great things for us. You by my side 'The Incredible and Fantastical Alister Bertram and Trinal, Masters of the Magics'. I could see it now, trapsing across the realm together, finding magical artifacts for my collection, rolling in gold and silver. The cut would naturally be 70-30 as you'd be the junior partner, not liking that, I never do this, Zecas tell him I never do this, but I'll settle for 60-40. You've got chops, but you have to carry your weight. Brilliant!" Bertram is 7 parts showman in his manner of speaking. Highly enthusiastic and charming to boot.

The dwarves are comforted by your words and bid you well. The food is mostly small breads with pate and cheese. Sort of a filler until the dining starts.

Stavis would than make a small plate of food and mingle with the crowd until dinner, making sure to say hi to Victea if she is present as well as the dwarfs that accompanied them Atrios, Torvo, and Zelvo ensuring if they hadn't already joined their brethren that they are made aware they are here as well as letting them know his intent to meet with Almuth tomorrow or the day after about restitution, requesting that at least one be present to help with introductions.

Trinal smiles pleasantly. "It's lovely to meet you, Agatha. I was very pleased to meet your husband yesterday, and I'm glad to be able to get to know you also."

Turning to Alister Bertram, Trinal's expression is pleasant but reserved. "Glad to meet you, Mr. Bertram. I'm both flattered and pleased that you'd think that I'd be a good partner, especially sight unseen and unknown."

Smiling and chuckling slightly (not in a mean way, in a rueful manner, meant to show regret but not really, you know what I mean), he goes on "Sadly, I'm afraid that I'm not really in the business of collecting any artifacts. My work with the Phoenix Guard is my current vocation, and leaves little room for acquisition, if you take my meaning."

He takes a small sip of his drink and looks at Bertram with a knowing eye. "That said, if I do come across any artifacts you might be interested in that we might not need, I would be happy to give you an opportunity to acquire them for your collection." He sketches a small bow in his direction.

@ Trinal

Alister Bertram responds in a playful pleading tone "Aw my hopes are being dashed Zecas. I guess I'll just have to find some way to carry on." He pats you on the back returning to his jovial blustery normal demeanor "Trinal my lad, Zecas tells me you built an arcane gate, that isn't a light task. I mean maybe I could have done it if asked, but regardless deeds speak volumes and yours I can tell are just getting started. What are you twenty two twenty three? Men twice your age still struggle with simple charms, and here you are thrusting your hand into the void and tearing a path for others. Sight unseen? Sure, but deeds like those show lots of promise and you have a bright future. Don't mistake me, I'm eager to become fast friends. I understand your Phoenix Guard is important, but sometimes you'll need an extra hand, or an ear to assist and council, and I am a man renowned for my abilities, so by all means, Do. Not. Hesitate. to use me towards your greater endeavours. As for your offer of first right of refusal on artofacts not needed for the war effort? That is something I cannot pass up. Zecas, deduct from my account the entrance fee for Traveling Scholar for Trinal here at the conservatory. And Trinal remember to seek me out to if nothign else take a gander at what you might acquire. Promise me that."

"That is a remarkably generous gesture, sir. You have my gratitude. And I agree completely that knowing someone with your resources and insight is always a help. I cannot help but think that we will have much to discuss as time goes by.

As to the gate, I must give credit there to the Professor. He did most of the heavy lifting in terms of the research, I simply followed the recipe, so to speak. But I will admit to a little bit of pride that we accomplished something that hasn't been done in so long.
"

Nodding to Mr. Zecas Trinal says "Thanks to Mr. Bertram's generosity, I very much look forward to spending time in the Conservatory's incredible library, and of course contributing what I can to the common cause of increasing our knowledge."

@Tony "My priest was pretty impressed with you. I just wanted to take you aside for a moment and answer a question he didn't know. My Brackton counterpart is safe and sound at least as of last report. Your friends were very grateful for the help as are we all. I know tonight you'll have a lot of people wanting your attention, but I was hoping you'd come by the temple tomorrow or next and have a longer chat about your place in the church." The Bishop says. His look, voice, and mannerisms are a lot like the actor Brian Cox. Sort of the kind of man who is a bit hard pressed to get terrible emotional, and has a bit of embarrassment in showing gratitude.
