@ Stavis

"The fountain's construction is an aqueduct system. Unless the enemy is shorter than a foot tall I am not worried about an assault from this front." He looks at you for a moment pondering. "Do you have any family who were not right in the head? You know heard voices or saw things not there?" The commander asks.

"Not that I was aware but I did leave the under-verse at a rather young age and members that did would have likely been concealed or purged from the family."

"This is also the first occurrence of having heard sounds like this though as a Bard also one of the fist times I've gone this long with limited activity."

"Completely understandable of course."

@Stavis

The commander thinks for a second. "I don't suppose your friends building the gate would be too happy if you went dull in the head. I'll give you a series of tasks which may keep you occupied until such time as all this is over with and you are out of our hair. Would you rather knit or draw? I can have some materials usually reserved for the young ones, so you can keep yourself busy drawing up stories or knitting a scarf. Not much I can do otherwise."

Trinal, having returned from his work on the gate to eat something before getting back to work, says "If he can be given some drawing materials, possibly he can assist me with plans for the gate; we have a lot of purely mechanical work to do and the engineers are very busy. If he can help with preliminary sketches that the engineers can refine, it will help immensely as then the engineers don't need to spend a lot of time learning the more arcane bits of the work and can focus on just the mechanical aspects. With your permission, of course, sir."

@Trinal & Stavis

"Of course. I'll have one of my men return with materials shortly." He waves his hands and the soldiers leave the room. The outside guards resume normal duty.

Munching on some bread and drinking a bit of wine, Trinal says "I hope that's OK with you, Stavis. I know you must be bored here and it would be of some help to us."

"That will work out fine, likely mean the gate gets built faster, and thus my trip to the Southern alliance that much sooner."

"Not that I have nothing to do." will indicate the ritual books "The variety should be helpful nonetheless."

@Syric

You bid thepriest farewell and make your way through the street and run into Victae walking with a group. "Halt." She barks at them. She steps aside and says to you "Getting along okay? Looking for something in particular?"[/quote]

"Hey there Victae, actually I was looking for a couple things. Stavis had asked me to keep an eye out for a musical instrument but I ended up at Kord's temple and it slipped my mind til now." he says with a sheepish shrug, "I'm also feeling kinda restless and was curious if I'd get the chance to test myself against some of the citadel's finest if you know what I mean."

@Syric

She smiles.

"Soldiers, this is my friend Syric the Unyielding. He seeks to test his skills against the tempered blade of the Citadel. You are mere linemen, but you might need to face off against a skilled agent of the enemy akin to my friend here. What do you say to a little challenge? Would you be up to it?"

Several voices in her group shout "YES SIR!"

"Syric go grab Stavis' instrument, there should be a shop in merchant row, though the selection may not be too great. Then meet up in the Arched Causeway. this evening after supper." She gives you directions on how to get to both places and then marches her crew out of the way.

@Trinal and Stavis

A guard returns with a small case containing charcoals and sheets of parchment.

"For the gate sir." Before eyeing Stavis for a second, bowing to Trinal then leaving.

Trinal frowns slightly.

"Well, one hopes they'll be able to overcome these prejudices someday. I have to get back to work on the thing. Thank you for your help, my friend. Let me know if you need anything else."

Trinal takes another bit of bread and cheese and heads back out to get back to work on the gate.

Stavis will look over the materials and ask if there is anything that will need to be a priority before starting, while humming to himself again. Though will keep an ear out for any noise.

@Stavis the guards outside are back to their normal duty. The only sound (minus Trinal eating and leaving) is the gentle lap of water in the fountain. Inspection of the crate reveals it is a normal crate made of simple wood construction. The Crate does not use nails though and has instead a series of dovetail wood cuts which keep the crate assembled. The parchment sheets are largish like 2ft x 2ft and about 20 in quantity and the drawing charcoals are in a small burlap sack and number about 10 in quantity.

The symbol carved into the bar is worn, probably fifteen years if you had to make a rough guess. It is from a rival secret organization you think, but aren't sure, and if so which one.

The bathroom is surprisingly clean for a bar. These citadel types take rules super seriously.
Tony will memorize the symbol so he can tell the others about it later, then after draining the weasel he'll head back to the table and continue the game. I'll tell another tale or two if they seem receptive and try to get them to open up a little, maybe get a story or two out of them about their exploits at the citadel. I'm NOT pumping them for information, the goal basically just to have some fun and make some friends. As they are part of the night shift I assume they'll be having to leave around dinner time, at which point I will leave as well and head back to our area to catch up with everyone else.

@Tony

The table warms up. You hear about the monotony of the continual siege. How they kinda wish they had fresh fruit as opposed to the cave veggies (magical farms you walked through on the way to the resting hall). The game goes on and a few of them peel off and say that should you be looking for a game to swing by this bar (apparently there are two others). They introduce you to the barkeep who makes note of your name and tells you a joke about two monks and a soldier stuck on a boat out at sea. He botches the punchline which amuses Grindle greatly. The last person at the table with you is Chorts. He sits there looking at you like something is on his mind. The game has stopped and it is just the two of you finishing the ales before moving on.

Finally after an awkward silence he says

"So you guys are really gonna open a magical gate to Waterdeep? No foolin?"

"Tony Plush is many things, not all of them are good, but he isn't a liar. Tony Plush doesn't know how it all works, magic is not Tony Plush's forte, but it's supposed to take a week or so to build but once completed yes, there will be a magical gate between here and Waterdeep. It's going to make this a whole new war and with that we should finally be able to get reinforcements up here and to finally break the siege and get you out of here."

Tony will watch his response just to see because I want to make sure he's not some sort of spy or plant. Paranoid? Maybe, but just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there isn't an invisible demon about to eat your face.

@Tony

Chorts does something you haven't seen all night, he cracks what looks like a quarter smile. "Thanks. I was giving up hope. I wasn't gonna desert or nothing, because I ain't a coward, but I don't know how much longer I could stand to be locked up with the weight pushing on us like this. You ever need anything, you find me and I'll be there." He finishes his ale and shouts to the bartender. "This one shows up again he ain't paying for no more drinks, you put it on my tab. And I won't hear of it otherwise." He pats you on the back and leaves.

Tony will sit there for another moment ruminating on what just happened, then he'll get up, nod to the bartender and leave and head back to our area to see how everyone else is faring.

Tony catches Trinal about to leave as he gets back to the Hall. There is a crate with art supplies that Stavis is pilfering through. He looks slightly unsettled.

"Ah, Tony. Good to see you, hope all is well. I just got a bit to eat and was on my way back to the gate. I think Stavis may be a bit frustrated with being cooped up, as any of us would be."

To Trinal: "Things are good. Tony Plush met some of the night shift guards and had a good time with them. Expect that word of the gate will be spreading rapidly among the troops and that they will be skeptical, but excited about the prospects. While in the bar though Tony Plush saw a symbol, it looked familiar but Tony Plush could not place it. When you return if you could take a moment to look at it and see if you are familiar Tony Plush would appreciate it."

To Stavis: "Are you ok my friend, you look a bit out of sorts."

Stavis will continue to work though start to pay more attention when he is brought up in their conversion, pausing when Tony asks directly. Stavis will scratch at the back of his head in clear displeasure and embarrassment of having to brioche the topic though seemingly his resignation that he will have to repeat for the rest as well. "I would be inclined to believe Trinal on merely being cooped up but wouldn't have expected me to be hearing things one the first day." with a slight chuckle "After a month more believable and still tempted simply chalk it up to displeasing Erevan Ilesere in my recent lack of devotion of mischief."

Assuming the two show more interest will explain everything that's happened to him so far in what he had heard and when, his initial concern of the tunnels the water uses for the fountains, and the commanders explanation of that not being a concern. After having finished will ask the two to keep an ear out in case its not just him.

"That's definitely odd. And something Tony Plush wouldn't just ignore either. Well there isn't much Tony Plush has planned right now so we'll see if maybe it happens again. Meanwhile if you don't mind maybe this is something you have seen before..."
Tony will take a small corner of paper and sketch the symbol he saw in the bar
"Have you seen this before. Tony Plush believes this symbol is one of a secret society, but which one he does not recall..."
