LPDnD: Hazy Shade of Winter

Standing on the now crumbled gates of Silverdeep, the Phoenix Guard has defeated Razvan (who escaped) in an attempt to rescue teh Dwarven Paladins who gave them permission to get materials for the Gate they intend to build in the Citadel. Joining their party is Franklin who they got when they left Brackton. Richard who had joined them had revealed himself a traitor and was executed by Victae's blade. Atrios, Torvo, and Zelvo have joined along as they cannot defend the ruins of Silverdeep should Razvan come back, electing to regroup and find allies elsewhere. Winter is settling in to the dangerous mountains, and the nearest road to the Citadel is 50 miles away over mountains. The road itself is rumored to be very dangerous due to highwaymen and other perils. What will our heroes do? Let's find out!

"East it is then. I see no alternative but to seek the road."

"Agreed Tony Plush suspects that any brigands we encounter will regret their choice for the rest of their life, which is likely to be measured in moments."

Tony will move out taking point.

Stavis will take up the rear to conceal the groups tracks as best as possible as he can tell his ritual isn't as powerful as it could be but not so much that he can't keep up with the group by putting a lot of focus the first 100 yards or so, then patches of 50 yards every so often, and 100 yards leading up to any camp site. He will keep this up until they reach the road or at any point that the ground will not leave any tracks.

Syric will follow after Tony, letting him gain a bit of distance as they head out. Relying on Tony to warn of any danger, his thoughts return to the fight with Razvan, replaying the failure over and over again looking for where he needs to improve.

The party sets off around the base of the mountain that used to be the roof over Silverdeep. The terrain is tough through a combination of rocks, snow, felled trees. Progress is slow and Stavis in particular finds his attempts to cover the party's tracks particularly tiring.

Stavis please make an endurance check DC 10.

Franklin tries to ease paranoia "I think Tony's probably right about there not being a nearby reserve force. The priority for the Baroness would be the Bishop for the bloo ritual. You guys would be a lead for sure, but I can't imagine them pulling search parties from the other areas."

The track work has been tiring, but luckily you don't feel like you've hindered your overall strength in continuing.

"Don't wear yourself out trying to cover our tracks, Staris. We'd be very hard to follow here in any case, and while I don't want to be blithe about it, I think it's likely that snow will obliterate any traces before a party can locate us. That's not to say we should leave a clear trail, but I don't want to see you or anyone else being exhausted- the trip's already going to be tough enough." Trinal smiles grimly.

"May well be less necessary then I fear, as it would make sense for Richard to inform them that the Bishop is no longer with us. I would still rather put in effort to ensure that any chasing after us are as delayed as possible as well as reduce the likely hood of other enemies finding us as the blood army is hardly the only foe we may face in our travel to the Citadel, but if I feel it starting to wear me out I will focus only on concealing close to camp."

Stavis will stay stead fast on keeping at the very least the camps concealed even at the insistence of the party, stating he would rather do what he can to ensure the camp doesn't get attacked where the group is caught unprepared.

When we finally stop for the day to camp Tony will speak up.

"It's going to be a long trip so we should make some plans to save ourselves for the duration of the trip. Tony Plush has not problems running point for the trip, although if Stavis wants to relieve him now and then that would not be unwelcome. Obviously we need to have watches while we camp. With 9 people Tony Plush suggests we do 4 watches of 2 with 1 person off per night. We rotate who is off by picking lots so everyone gets a night off."

Unless you want to do actual rolls, etc here is what I'm thinking for basic pairings. This puts 1 party member on watch per rotation plus it gives us someone with darkvision on each watch as well.

1 - Tony and Zelvo
2 - Syric and Atrios
3 - Victae and Torvo
4 - Stavis and Franklin
off - Trinal

Off rotation: Trinal, Torvo, Stavis, Zelvo, Tony, Franklin, Victae, Atrios, Syric

[OOC I agree with the plan just have a question of how the order shifts as people rest. If we have the one resting taking the place of the one that will rest the following day when it is my turn we will have Torvo and Franklin and if we are wanting a player for each group would require shifting a player around. If however we have a player shift around to take the spot of the person resting could work but then run into the issue of one night being one watch for the last shift and then the first shift the following night.

My thought would be to do the later and Stavis offer to do the shifting, just not sure that would help as he would likely be the lest affected by that but work against trying to keep up appearances that he isn't a Drow.]

Stavis will agree with the plan to keep up appearances though internal he feels he will be getting plenty of rest as is, since he will have more rest time then he normally needs to meditate since he will only be on watch for one shift as opposed to the two he normally does, so if extra meditation is needed to recover from the hiding the trails he will already have the time to do so.

The first night is cold. You are able to make a fire in a secluded spot and the wind quickly dissipates any column of smoke that goes up as the wind whips around the mountain. The clouds cover the moon and in the distance you hear two animals engaged in a battle. Snarling and barks clash, then a death wail and silence returns. It was a ways off in the distance, but the sound leaves a sense of dread about the mountains.

Morning comes to an overcast day. Morning rations are eaten and the trek continues. The Mountain of Silverdeep's destruction is clearly visible. It as if a giant titan stepped on a rock and crushed it. Terrifying to imagine such power out in the world. Men should not have the ability to destroy permanent features of the land like that.

During the day travel you come across a bear that has been killed by a savage animal of some sort. There are slashes of claws. His body has been torn apart and devoured. Whatever did trotted off to the north with bloody paw prints.

[ooc I thought of that, and I knew since you need less rest you will be pretty much up and about that night anyway so I wasn't too concerned about that.]

[OOC well the thing is granted Stavis realizes that the dwarfs or at least some of then likely know he is a Drow but is wanting to put up appearances, as not wishing to be attacked by the Dwarfs and the consequences that would come with that, so when he meditates it will be in a more traditional sleeping position and a more traditional time frame, so fake sleeping for parts of the night. Might be able to get a way with the occasional getting up for things but for the most part appear to be any race that isn't Drow.

That said if the rest of the group was ok with Stavis volunteering to be the one to shift around, Stavis would do that to help speed things along.]

The next two days is rugged hiking through the snow and rocks. Each night you hear the howling of some canine like animal. It keeps it's distance always being several miles away when you hear it in the crisp cold night air. The clouds seem to be darkening with each day and a snowstorm seems imminent.

"Not that I truly wish to be up on the mountain for any longer then we have to but would suggest we setup a more permanent camp before the storm hits and and bunker down until it passes. Either stay here or go until we find a suitable location to weather the storm."

With a snowstorm approaching Stavis will cut back on concealing their tracks to just their camps until after the storm passes as the storm will conceal any trail they would create for however long they continue to travel. Should the group continue Stavis will keep an eye on the weather to ensure if the storm is soon to be upon them to stop the group and get camp setup.
