Down hill to the south east from where you are, you see a boulder that bowled through several trees long ago. The wood and boulder would be a decent start to a shelter if you needed to fortify.

Stavis will point out the location to the group, "Well, I doubt we will find better spot for a more permanent camp while we wait out the storm."

Stavis will then head off and will start to collect firewood piles and any larger pieces especial those with needles or leaves still on the branches to be stacked to form a wind barrier.

"Cozy. Should be fun."

We'll set about making a camp. Trinal will work on a firepit that hopefully reduces smoke (OOC: a "dakota firepit"), by digging a hole for the fire with a connecting tunnel to a separate smaller hole for airflow. He'll help Stavis arrange the barricades around it and work on packing snow against them as insulation both against cold and wind.

"Good idea, maybe we can get this beast that's been following us to get it over with and try to attack. I could use some fresh meat" Syric adds before going to help setup camp, his eyes always raking the distance for unusual movements.

Using the divoted boulder as a starting place the team works together gathering fell logs and branches with evergreen still on them to build a basic structure. Trinal makes a dakota firepit which helps conserve fuel and produce more heat. ( interesting I never knew about that despite all my years in scouts)

Night comes and the wind picks up. Snow begins to fall and the party finds itself huddled in the meager structure as the snow really begins to fall and carpet the mountainside with two feet of snow. The night's only sound is the wind . The shelter creaks and groans under the weight of the snow but holds pretty well. The Heat from the fire helps create the "igloo effect" going into the morning.

Morning comes, the snow is still falling but has settled to a slow fall compared to the driving gusts of the night before.

Trinal grunts jokingly "Shelter good."

Looking around at the party he says "How long do you think we should stay here? The snow's letting up but it's going to be hard slogging through it."

"I would suggest waiting long enough to repair or replace snowshoes so everyone has a pair to help make travel easier, but past that unless we think another round is coming would suggest pushing off."

Stavis will then inspect his snow shoes to see how they are fairing before collecting and crafting three pair for the dwarfs.

[OOC looks like all of those are successes so if I don't need the shoes for myself will make them in case others' shoes need to be replaced.

Zelvo, Torvo, and Atrios take the improvised snow shoes.

"Are we setting out or do we wait?" Victae asks.

If it looks like there is no immediate threat of a storm as bad or worse then Tony will strap his snowshoes back on, whisper a quick prayer to Avandra to watch over us in our travels and take point.

"True enough, no time like the present..."

The party sets out into a light snowfall. The wind is cold and you find the winter clothes to be a blessing in mitigating the cold. The powder like nature of the new snow fall makes traveling through it somewhat problematic. The snow shoes help some but you are sinking lower than you would on more packed snow. The valley between the fallen mountain of silverdeep and the next mountain makes for easier travel as it is mostly downhill. You decide to take it slowly lest anyone slip and slide down the mountain and risk injury.

As you reach the bottom of the Valley it is shortly after noon. The work to get this far has been exhausting. Everyone make an Endurance check (DC 13 factoring in your clothes and snow shoes) failure means you need to rest or risk injury.

Endurance
[dice]0[/dice]

"I see no reason not to, we have been going at a pretty quick pace and you do hear stories from time to time of people getting a bit loopy climbing up and down from mountains due to the thin mountain air."

Unless also at risk Stavis will look for a good place to camp that will give good concealment.

Syric, seeing that fatigue has sunk it's icy claws further into some of others than himself, will start looking for a good place to stop for a while.

The party find the best available option in the narrow valley between mountains. In a rock out cropping you are able to fasten tree branches to the overhand and make a primitive hut. The biggest worry is the possibility of an avalanche, but given the threat of exhaustion you can't really continue on. The party rests and eats some food to regain their strength.

Night approaches.

We'll do the same thing with the firepit, etc. and keep the watch pattern discussed earlier, I expect.

"I'll be happy to be out of these mountains."
