In-Person (well, sort of) session?

Post by Jimer Lins » Thu Apr 23, 2015 4:21 pm

Hey folks- I have no idea if this is doable, but I think it might be fun to schedule a time where we can all get together on Google Hangouts or Skype to do a real gaming session, virtually over the table, so to speak. Would there be interest and/or ability to do this among the D&Ders?

I'm thinking on a Saturday afternoon/evening, when we can all have our favorite libations to hand and just chill out hacking and slashing a bit. :)

A couple options on this:

Google hangout with a roll20.net thing like we did for the SWSaga game, or I could have my camera on an honest to goodness battle mat on my dining room table.

I'm cool with either option. We could even just use the same shared documents we use now; the thing I'm hoping for is more "over the table" interaction/RP, which is always fun.

Funny you mentioned this today, last night a thing hit my Facebook feed that I just looked back up, there is a virtual D&D platform available on Steam. There was a polygon article about it. We should look into that...

I saw that too. But IIRC it is 5th edition ($40) which I'm not opposed to, but we'd have to do some character rework.

Okay let me prep stuff this weekend for a session the following weekend. I might put a pause on the thread game so we can saunter up to the next bit cleanly.

ALTERNATELY

We could make alternate characters to run an independent one off adventure set in the same universe just in a different part of the game world. and that could be done.

The Blackferne RP Universe..... It is all connected.

Conversation with Jimer:
Blackferne: so the live session prospect. Do you like the idea of alternate storyline?
the B plot as it were?
The aragorn, gimili, and legolas to teh party's frodo and samwise?
the han and leia in space to luke's training with yoda?
the squiward to Bob and Patrick?

Jimer: Could be a lot of fun. I'm OK with whichever way you want to roll it- a secondary adventure would be more work, but sounds fun!

Blackferne: well I actually think it would be a good chance to try a few new things, and it lets you guys see some of the hooks not taken if I choose to go that way

Jimer: Neat.

Blackferne: and there are parts of the map you guys haven't elected to go to which wwould be fun and it preserves the game record we have going

Jimer: So maybe a week from this Saturday, you're thinking?

Blackferne: I need to check with Jess on times but I would be down for that

Jimer: Sweet.

Blackferne: best part is you guys give me new heroes to possibly thrown in your way
for teh Thor vs Iron man and Captn amaeica fight oh wait we're friends!

Jimer: lol, I like that idea

A secondary thought occurs- if you want to try 5E rules with this secondary adventure, this would be a chance to try them out without having to rework our current ones. The only issue would be that there's no way I can buy the 5E rulebooks or other materials- I'm poor as a little churchmouse at the moment.

I have the 5E players hand book (and could probably put together a character for you if we discussed a character design over IM or skype or something). I will probably buy the monster manual this weekend if we got the 5e route (I plan on getting the core books eventually anyway)

I'll stick with a healer, unless someone else really wants it, so that's one archetype taken care of at least.

Does 5E stick with the same MMO-esque model of tank/healer/DPS?

If people need help designing 5e characters I still have my DNDI subscription so I could assist them with their builds.

So characters should be level 10. Once you guys get some character concepts we can go over back story. I like the idea of you guts being an established group.

I could be available to join this. :).

digital rollers are nice, but noting compares to the real thing.

Although next weekend I may be helping a friend repair the plumbing at his cottage (pipes froze and burst in February's cold snap).

Max of 5 players. I don't want to worry about crazy balance issues trying to make like a 8 person game.
