Re: In-Person (well, sort of) session?
It is reasonable to assume, you would have some magically enhanced armor and weapon as well as one or two other magical pieces. However, I'm not sure to what extent they will be pumped up.
As far as base equipment goes any nonmagical armor or weapon would be fair game. You guys would be approx twice as powerful as you current characters are and are further along in your adventuring careers. You would have had ample time to get the money for suits of armor and weapons (even very pretty ones with lots of flair). So if your decision about mage armor is dependent on whether you could for example have plate armor, just know you already can get plate armor (super shiney with like a dragon shaped helm with ornate jewels), the only question is whether it has magical properties.

Poking online it looks like the magic items are in the DMG. Go ahead and make a rough draft of your character without magic items. And I'll look through the equipment stuff after I get the rough draft and tell you what bonus magic items you'd have.

ok, it looks like we are limited by level to just Common, Uncommon and Rare magic item. Very Rare are available at 11, Legendary at 17.

Re: In-Person (well, sort of) session?
I was reading the treasure and magic items section in the DMG last night. They give guidelines and random tables for loot. This weekend I'm going to roll treasure for 10 levels assuming 5 characters and post the results. You guys will need to decide who gets what.

So I've got my books, and I have read through a lot of the information and I've got a character concept I like, but I can't find rules for it... Have they not come out with rules for creating scrolls and magic items? I kinda want to do a dwarven mage who does a lot of runic magic, stonecrafting "scrolls" but it doesn't seem that the rules support that yet... Joun, there anything I'm missing?

Re: In-Person (well, sort of) session?
Ok, I did find some rules for crafting magic items in the downtime section, pg 128-129. So the question then becomes two-fold. 1) how many, if any, scrolls/runes could I have pre-crafted. 2) how many spells am I allowed to already have in my spellbook. I would think that by level 10 I would have found and or researched more than the 2 per level as I leveled up.

Re: In-Person (well, sort of) session?
okay so I did a random loot treasue horde roll fro what they'd suggest for levels 1-10 as best I can tell. The total gold you guys would have gotten is 84,477gp. That is 16,895g 4sp each. There were a few other items and potions and what not. There is a cost per magic crafted item (5k gp per rare item) so let me link what you have got from my mass rolling, you can see if that helps sort out stuff for you Furiel.

tab 2 items is the magic items included in the hordes of treasure. There is also a few scrolls in there that are blank.

I would like to buy or make a set of Glamoured Studded Armor, it is a rare item. Can this happen?
If so, I'd also like to try and make a +2 (rare) or +1 (uncommon) rapier.

Magic item price list:
Common 100gp
uncommon 500gp
rare 5,000gp
Pg 129 dungeon master guide. Use that price list to buy additional gear as you see fit.

Re: In-Person (well, sort of) session?
The price to make some of this stuff is ridiculous TBH. According to the rules it costs 5000gp to create 1 scroll of Summon Minor Elemental because that's a level 4 spell.
Other things that you can get for the same 5000 gp...
1 Wand of the following - fireballs, lightning bolts, paralysis
Stone of Controlling Earth Elementals
Bowl of Commanding Water Elementals
+1 Armor
+2 Shield
+2 Weapon
Wings of Flying
I mean I could keep going on but I think the point here would hopefully be made. These rules make sense for making other magic items, but to me they don't makes sense at all for scroll creation for stuff above level 3. I mean I can summon a full size earth or water elemental once per day forever for the same prices as being able to summon several minor ones once? Tell me how that makes sense...

Re: In-Person (well, sort of) session?
Your point is made. So let's look at why people would want scrolls. First they prevent the need to use a spell slot for the spell and second they prevent the need for spell components. So a larger spell arsenal with reduced component burden. I think you are right that scrolls are overpriced compared to the +1 armor etc. What I would like though is to prevent your dwarf wizard from tripling or quadrupling the size of his spell slot size via scrolls. (I'm picturing a dwarf with a backpack overflowing with scrolls running behind the party shouting "wait for me" as he clumsily drops a pile of additional scrolls in his hands").
Option 1: We adjust the price so you can get a few more slots so it wouldn't be full price (ie a rare instead of 5k might be 2500, or something)
Option 2: We figure out a formula to account for the price of spell components. So like let's say the materials needed to make a 4th level spell are 100g, that over 20 days would be 2000g. I'd have to review spell components for spells and see.
Basically I need a way to prevent you from having a near infinite supply of your most powerful spell. Because if I don't it is either a death trap I need to make, or it is no fun for everyone else. Let's figure out a compromise.

There are 10 potions of healing - so 2 each?
There is 4 potions of greater healing and 2 of superior healing. I would like one of the greater healing if ok.
Can we get definitions on the 7 spell scrolls?
