Right, sorry!

Trinal fumbles in his pouch and pulls out the letter, examines the seal.

Legend Lore: d20+9: 15+9=24

He'll also share the details of his dream with the group. "Based on the dream with no context, I thought we were in immediate danger here, but it seems that there's something larger or darker afoot. Did anyone else recognize the old man? He seemed... familiar."

The seal is red wax with a skull on it. It may have more detail, but so much wax was used the finer points are messed up.

"A little more on this 'prisoner', it seems. It also mentions the Gap. Here, see for yourself."

Trinal passes the letter around to the company.

Joun, did the seal have anything on it that was useful and/or interesting, or was it just a blob of wax?

"My dream was of me as a child above ground in a field, long before I had seen the sun for the first time, with a cat telling me 'Glory awaits the cavalier. Are you cavalier?'"

When Stavis has his turn to look at the letter "Interesting, this stranger could be a valuable ally or even as a follower of Orcus captured may well help in weakening the Blood army. I would be willing to have a slight delay looking for this facility but with just this may need to table it for now and wait for when we see the Professor again."

"It might not hurt to take this on and head further north before we cross into the mountains, maybe we can skirt the gap completely."

"As for my dream, it was just a garble where I was a hero for defeating a puppeteer before finding myself on a horse being approached by a centaur. I've found no hidden meaning to it."

"If we can avoid the gap and still make it to our destination, all to the good. But let's be cautious."

"I don't see any meaning to the dream I had either, or at least none I can gather besides a general sense of warning. I don't know what the old man or the flask he kept giving me symbolized."

The Gap is more SE than East from your current position. If you stay due north you will reach a river and a town called Brackton which is a town that historically was a place people headed into the mountains would stop off in.

Our original plan was to avoid any contact with habitation, which I think we should stick to- going overland directly from here is probably safer, although will take a bit longer. I suggest we bear NE and slog it out.

Fair enough. Though I'd like to remind you that in addition to the thorium you hope to find in Silver Deep, you still need some jewels to finish the "address" stones.

Edit: currently you need
3 emeralds of appropriate size, 1 unit of air essence, 1 unit of fire essence, and the thorium

You have the books detailing how to build this gate (and a blank you you were to be copying the text into), 2 rubies, 2 topaz, and 2 emeralds.

[OOC approximately how close is the town to Silvers Deep, if we push ahead skipping them with the hope of finding all the materials we need at Silvers Deep and some is not found there we could do some minor backtracking if need be.

If the time will take long enough could camp out a ways to the town and have Tony and I sneak up to ensure any Blood Army can't track back to camp and try and procure whatever materials we are concerned with not being able to readily get.]

The path Jimer outlined (which I've tried to stick as close to as possible) accounting for the slight push from the drow pursuit and the forest fires, has left you due south of Brackton. Brackton has a well maintained road (unless it has fallen into disrepair) through the mountains to Silver Deep. The path Jimer laid out bypasses Brackton and swings up to Silver Deep. But I was assuming it was going to avoid the road.

"Well, now we come to it- we still need to get some of the gems for the gate. We could go to Brackton and hope to avoid notice, disguise ourselves as farmers or something, and attempt to acquire what we need there- assuming the town even still exists. We could also make straight for Silver Deep and hope to find the gems there. Either way is a gamble. Thoughts?"

"Well Brackton is risky, but it also allows us to join up with the road. Travelling the mountains off of a road would be tougher, and more dangerous given wild animals, and roving bands of monsters. That said monsters sometimes have treasure troves. And a road is a magnet for bandits." Victae says.

"If Silver Deep is left unspoiled of its riches I would think we would be able to collect everything we need. There is also the possibility of buying materials when we get to the Citadel."

"That said I would feel much more comfortable if we where able to get two emeralds and maybe one of the elements just to ensure we aren't dependent on finding all of it. The one extra advantage would be I doubt that this is the only gate we will construct so extra materials we end up collecting can be used in future constructions."

"As a compromise we could head straight to Silver Deep and head back to Brackton should we need materials we feel we won't find at the Citadel."

"Unless the Citadel has changed leadership, I think it is safe to assume they would not have the gems or the essences. They prefer a more..." Victae pauses "utilitarian lifestyle. Martial power was their primary concern, and gemstones are not kept long if they can be traded for more practical supplies."

"I think I like the earlier suggestion- how about we move toward Braxton, scout it out and see what's going on, and decide from there?"

"That sounds good, I'd like to have the materials on hand before we get into the mountains if possible. And if we can crush some cowardly bandits on the way, all the better" Syric says with a grin.

"Right now one of our biggest enemies is ignorance. Moving toward town seems prudent as we can likely pick up both needed supplies and intelligence on the enemy."

Resolved to go check out Brackton you make your way north. A few days later you find yourself on the outskirts of town. Here is a map of town I made while sick in bed this morning.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4WEg8 ... sp=sharing

I assume you will make your way to the inn. You would be approaching from the gate on the top of the map (East side, I didn't orient the map properly.

[OOC I was assuming that we would start by camping outside of town and send a group into town to verify that the town was safe with little Blood army presence or quite possibly get what info, supplies, and building material we could and then head for Silver Deep.

A little signposting story wise though I have 2 quest ideas I hope to rope you guys in which can make brackton a fun stop on the way to silver deep.

I'll keep you posted on my deal and when we can get back to norm.
