"Thank you for your time General. We'll check back with you before they depart." The Professor says leading Trinal and the rest out of his office. "I see what he is thinking. The Citadel by itself isn't enough to push too far into Chulassa territory, but if we built and Arcane Gate there, he could either evacuate one of the most skilled armies out of the Citadel here or provide them with the proper logistical support necessary to push into their territory. Arcane gates are a rather recent discovery, or rediscovery actually. It has a long list of components, and if successful can make a network of gates capable of near instant travel between locations. If you guys pull this off you will be heroes, and immediately on every general's wishlist for special operations. We need to get you to the library."

"Since you guys are heading out to the Citadel you will need some supplies for your journey. Fall is quickly approaching and with it the mountain snows." The Professor says as you walk towards King Gavin's keep where the library is located. "You should prepare for mountainous and winter travel. And by the time you reach the citadel you will likely be past the first heavy snow of winter. Depending on your route you could be travelling a good portion on mountains and passes, or you may swing by the lowlands out by Belholt for example. Regardless it will be a hard travel and would take a good two months in peace. Who knows how long it will take you now. Tony, Syric, and Stavis I would suggest you plan the provisions for the trip, Victae come with me and Trinal to the library. Your training in the Citadel could prove useful as we sort out the necessary components of this gate."

(barring any intraparty exchanges before trinal, victae and the professor peel off which can be retroconned in)

The professor leads Trinal and Victae to a large library with many many many vaulted ceilings and shelves upon shelves of books

"Good morning Professor." The librarian says. He is an older man in monk robes.carrying a few books to reshelve.

"Morning. Here on official business for General Watson." The professor says picking up his pace slightly. When you get past the librarian he whispers, can't stop and talk to him or you will be stuck here all day hearing ailments of his friends, half of which I'm not entirely sure exist.

He leads you into a side room with rich tapestries on the walls which immediately captivate Victae's attention.

"This is the room of Arcana. Trinal, you've no doubt heard about Rituals of teleportation right?" The Professor asks.

[OOC Unless not allowed I purchased an Adventurer's Kit and Tent for myself in the olden times.

I would suggest including for everyone Tents, Cold-weather clothing, at-least 30 days worth of food either as Journybread or rations, possibly a horse though may require forgoing to get a wagon depending on the amount of stuff needed for Trinal. I would also suggest just not needing one for everyone a Hunter's Kit and possibly Dowsing Rod.

"I know ritual magic, Professor, but I do not know any teleportation rituals. And my ritual book was lost at the Battle of the Green Sea. No major loss as it only had a couple of minor ones in it anyway."

@Trinal
"That's not what's important. Though sorry for your loss anyway. But what I'm gettign at is the typical way that teleportation works is a city or academy or wherever will have a permanent teleportation anchor and any schlub with a ritual to cast can go to that city if they know the proper runes and configuration. That's fine for a small party and great for one way traffic, but it doesn't exactly do what General Watson is getting at. An Arcane Gate essentially creates a permanent teleportation circle that can exist in a semipermanent manner allowing for two fixed locations to exchange plenty of people or things back and forth. The theory goes that you could build a gate in two places, open the gate and a whole army or march of refugees, or carts of food could go form one to the other. When the transfers are complete you can shut down the gate and things are back to normal. A goal if we can get it to work would be to build a gate network in secure strategic locations to better allow troop mobility and supplies transfer. The problem is you would need to travel to the desired location and build a gate there. The general is thinking the Citadel is a great chance to prove this can work. In these books we have the directions on the construction of a gate. It lists the materials needed and how to assemble, and the appropriate rituals to perform to configure the gate. How's your elvish?" the professor asks.

"I grew up speaking it of my mother." Trinal glances over the books. "Interesting. I'll need to get a new ritual book too, it seems." He sits down and begins poring over the books. Glancing up, he asks "Where can I get some parchment and ink? I'll need to make a shopping list of sorts for what we can obtain locally, and another for some of the more esoteric items."

The Professor sets off to get you a ritual book, parchement, and ink. The reading will keep you busy a while, but figuring out the shopping list will probably take a day.

Fair enough. I'll set to it. Trinal will thank the Professor for the ritual book, those aren't cheap.

Tents are 20lbs each, we may want to watch how much we're carrying. I was assuming we would want to limit it to what we can carry ourselves as I didn't think we'd be taking horses up the mountains. I definitely wouldn't mind getting one with a wagon though if it was feasible. what's in a Hunter's kit? Didn't someone get a bag of holding or was that Maizan?

[ooc]What are the rules for buying and selling magic items here right now? I have an idea to help with our provisioning but I need some clarification first? Half book price to sell and full book price with everything in the PHB to buy?[/ooc]

Granted I'm wearing leather armor but even with the tent I'm still below my normal carrying capacity. I figured we where wanting to get there quicker then just walking and mountains may be the more direct routes but we do have the options of either going around or trying to find passes the horses could handle. Also if we are going the mountain route all the more necessary for tents so we aren't as exposed to the elements.

Normally you can sell for half, but as it is time of war they are in higher demand so you can probably haggle it up to 3/4th book value.

"Professor, do you know where I can get a... sizable supply of elementium? I'm also going to need thorium, several unblemished rubies and emeralds, and a few other things. Some of this we'll have to make at the Citadel, but it'd be best if we didn't have to scour the area around it for anything in a war zone."

@Trinal You estimate for the project you will need about 10 pounds of elementium and about 6 pounds of thorium.

"Well that will be kind of tricky. I can talk to the general and see what we can get, but you may have to do some scouring in the ruins of the dwarvish city of Silver Deep for some of the gems and metals."

BTW the map of this continent for reference (I made this a long time ago)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4WEg8 ... sp=sharing

Note that the Citadel is Aern Bruth in the far NE corner. Silver Deep is top center.

Basic areas of control would be east of the mountains is Chulassa (Belholt, Sagemoor and right up to but not including Aern Bruth). Army of Blood has west of the mountains down to just past Falconcoast (they have Faycrest, Falconcoast, Black Bridge, and Brackton (sizeable dwarf town).

The narrow pass area is obviously the easiest place to cross the mountains in peacetime.

"When the Army of Blood moved in from the north they buried Silver Deeps tunnels and let the dwarves starve themselves. It is a tomb and has been for 35 years at this point. The mountains are hard to control so both forces have units scouring the mountains looking for opportunities. There are Dwarf settlements and goblin and orc settlments scattered all throughout, which could mean some of the treasure troves of Silver Deep has been looted."

[ooc- We must brave the Mines of Moria? Shall we avoid digging too greedily and too deep?]

After compiling the information with the Professor and taking notes for most of the afternoon, Trinal looks at the Professor. "It seems we'll have to go to Silver Deep, or possibly to the area around it to see if anyone has enough elementium and thorium from the mines for our needs. But I don't think it comes cheaply, and less so in wartime. We'll need either gold or goods for trade. I'd bet goods will be more readily accepted, but gold is easier to carry. What do you think, Professor?"

"Gentlemen Tony Plush is in possession of a spare set of Darkleaf Armor from our journeys on the other side. We should be able to trade that for several items that will make this journey much easier. Especially given it's wartime and magic armor would be at a premium. Let's find a shop that deals in items of power and see what we can get."

Specifically I have +2 Darkleaf Armor, 4200 book price. I'm thinking/hoping we can pull off something like 2 bags of holding at 1000 each and Everlasting Provisions at 840. The provisions basket will keep us in food forever without us having to carry any spare and the bags will make it easy for all our extra cold weather and gate supplies to be carried without a pack animal. That would mean trading at 2/3 value of the armor so we would need to start out higher obviously and that should be about the floor for our negotiations.
