"No silly, I'm talking about why we are here." she says partially confused and partially playful
Ooc the preferred pinky response was "I thinkso, but burlap chafes so."
Ooc 2: dm edition, if there are no objections in the next 6 hours I'll ff to tomorrow morning story wise.

Re: LPDnD: Knocking on Heaven's Door
The evening's celebrations continue. After well past midnight Cymone shows the group a guest house on the property to spend the night. Morning comes and after breakfast you all assemble back in the hall from last night.
Kyros is there to greet you.
"Morning! I take it you slept well?"

Re: LPDnD: Knocking on Heaven's Door
"I slept better knowing I had aid coming. Like I was telling Syrios last night, I'm in a bad position of sorts at the moment. My father is stepping down from the village council, and he will name his replacement. It will either be myself or Moris. One of the ceremonial traditions, as you well know, if a candidate for council must have his family mantle. The ceremonial cloak with his family crest given to a young man when he passes the rights of manhood. I keep mine in a chest in my room, and only bring it out for formal affairs. The last time I wore it was in the spring. When I went to go look at it the other day it was gone. In addition I suspect my brother may be responsible. He has returned from war a changed man. He keeps weird hours, and is keen on a soothsayer out in the hills. I suspect he may have something to do with the missing cloak as a means to take my birthright. I hope you can help me." Kyros says.

"I think it's important we not assume ill intent by anyone just yet. Let's start with what we know and move from there. Perhaps someone did take it, but it would be best not to accuse anyone until we have some evidence." Trinal smiles at Kyros.
"Can we see the place where you kept it?"

"Sure." He leads you to his room. It is a large bedroom befitting someone in an affluent family. There is a bed and a few chests around the room. A few oil lamps for light and some curtains that are covering porthole windows.
"Here is my bedroom. You see I have a few chests for clothes. That one is for winter clothes, that is summer, and this one here is formal wear and where I kept it."

Re: LPDnD: Knocking on Heaven's Door
"One thing I would ask Kyros, do you truly wish for the council position? Even should we return your mantel there is still the issue with the rumor to how you lost it and getting it back does not resolve the issue of qualifying for the position.
If we come back with both the mantel and evidence that your brother is responsible on both counts, would you be able to bring that to light. Merely having the one without willing to act on the other, would how you say, win the battle but loose the war."

Re: LPDnD: Knocking on Heaven's Door
"I want to serve my village. It would be an honor, and it is expected of me to fulfill my role as the heir to my father. If my brother had a hand in it, then he is not the brother I spent summer days with fishing by the river. Like I mentioned before, he seems changed since his return from teh war. I am afraid he may be under some dark influence." Kyros answers.

Trinal looks over the chests, particularly the formal wear one. Do they lock? Is there any sign of damage?

"I noticed it was missing about two weeks ago." Kyros replies.
The chest does not have locks on it, nothing else seems to be missing. And it doesn't look like any damage to the chest.

"Who has access to this room? Besides yourself, of course. Is it normally secured?"

@Trinal
"Well anyone in the family can get here. We don't lock out our kin. I suppose one of the servants might have, though that seems highly unlikely."

"I'm not so sure. We shouldn't go leaping off to accuse anyone, or even imply they've done something wrong, without more evidence than we have."Whiteness wrote:"I'm not sure if we're going to find anything here, we should go have a talk with this soothsayer"
Trinal pulls him aside to speak quietly, making sure Kyros can't hear. "Remember that this is a test of our morals. All we know right now is that this young man has a feeling. For all we know he's manipulating things to make his brother look bad. No, something deeper is going on here."

"You didn't see him last night, I had to go searching for him to find this out. If we stand by and do nothing, then his brother will succeed his father. I can't think we were brought here to do nothing" he says in turn to Trinal.
Then to everyone, "No one is accusing anyone right now, we're just trying to help our friend Kyros find his mantle."

"I doubt that we could speak to this soothsayer without making suspicions clear, and that would be tantamount to an accusation." Turning to Kyros Trinal asks, "Assume for a moment- just as a way of thinking about the problem differently- that you knew for an absolute certainty that your brother had nothing to do with the missing mantle. If that were true, who or what would you think was behind it? I ask so we can see if there are other logical possibilities to be eliminated before we take an action which we cannot withdraw."

Gobous leans in and speaks a bit softly.
"If your intentions are to find a thief, I will be happy to lend any support I may. But it seems before we accuse anyone of misdeeds, including your kin, we should make sure the item has left the grounds. Do you have a means of hiring individuals to search all the premises for your familial attire? Perhaps a few of the house cleaners that are familiar with places to hide objects?"

"Hmmm. Moris innocent? Well if it wasn't him, hypothetically, then it would have to be someone else who would benefit from bringing shame upon me or my family. The only people I could think of would be my father's rival Teucer. They have long quarreled, but that poses a problem of how to retrieve my cloak. If it were Teucer, he wouldn't know where I store it." Kyros says.

"I assure you that I have torn this place from roof to cellars, to find that thing. If it was here I would have found it. But if you want to interview the chief servant Agenor, he could perhaps offer additional aid." Pyros responds.Reese wrote:Gobous leans in and speaks a bit softly.

"He himself would not know, but the possibility remains that he could have, for example, bribed a servant to perform the theft. A servant would have both the access and the knowledge to do so. Now this does not absolve Moris of blame, but if we are going to get to the bottom of this we do need to be sure to look at all of the angles."Blackferne wrote:"Hmmm. Moris innocent?
