Having been to North Dakota, that seems a bit progressive.

To answer some exposition queries. To start you will be in a tavern in a small town named Belholt. The tavern is run by Bran (a universal name of all my bartenders and tavern masters unless noted otherwise or unless they are female in which case it is likely Branelle). The town is smallish. It isn't large enough to maintain separate churches so instead has a nondenominational church which has alcoves dedicated to each god in the pantheon. Most of the commerce is farmers bringing food and goods to market to trade. The chief governmental authority is Baron Turston. There is a sheriff and he has some folks who work for him. The adventure starts with a paige nailing a notice to the wall of the tavern:
Wanted: Men and Women of Action to assist local merchant with hazardous job. Sizeable payday upon completion. Meet in Tavern Rear room sunset tomorrow for details.
And we'll go from there. If you have other questions about the town, the realm etc, feel free to ask in the thread or in private.

Then Bran would be devastated, homeless, and unemployed.

I'm going to pick up a 4e PHB today when I get my son from school. From all my research it's changed quite a bit since I last played. Looking forward to this, Joun!

Depending on the circumstances the Sheriff and his employees might have to get involved in bringing said arsonist to justice or even murderer if Bran or other patrons don't make it out of the tavern alive.

If you can find it cheap, feel free to pick it up. If you can't or the price seems higher than you are willing, let me know and I can use my books and draft the paperwork.

My list of questions...
Is the inkeeper's last name Muffin?
What is the sheriff's name?
Are the barmaids comely?
How many deputies does the Sheriff have?
Is Baron Turston's last name Howell the Third?
Are there any acolytes at the church or just a caretaker?
Is there a forest nearby, and is it called Sherwood?
I'll have more later I'm sure.

Are the barmaids comely? Bran's wife is comely, but she is also surly
How many deputies does the Sheriff have? 4 full time, and a reserve pool
Is Baron Turston's last name Howell the Third? No. He is Tuston Howell the First
Are there any acolytes at the church or just a caretaker? A caretaker, though regional representatives from the various churches stop by every season to update the appropriate materials for him.
Is there a forest nearby, and is it called Sherwood? Yes, and no
I'll have more later I'm sure.
Done.

I'll be following closely, and once Furiel kills one of you, I'll hopefully jump in. Things are just a total zoo here - implementing some new things in the practice at the same time as helping implement the administration of the same new things province-wide...

Understood. Just so everyone knows I'm currently leaning heavily towards a drow bard, though I'm also considering a ranger of some kind.

Well since Cuspar was going to go Warlock, I've built an Avenger, but now that we are warlockless, I may put together a Warlock and see which build I prefer.

I got the PHB and PHB2 today. More than I wanted to pay, but I wanted to play, so... it's all good. You need characters by Friday, right? I need to bone up on the rules, it's been a while.

Incidentally, for less than the cost of the handbooks (I think), you can create a sub at wizards.com and they have a D&D character builder which allows you to filter or at least organize things by source books to prevent using anything illegal, and you can use it to generate your character sheets, update them, etc.

I saw that just wasn't sure how easy it was going to be to pull said character out or share with Joun so was kinda afraid I'd spend the money and then have to redo all the effort out side of their system to hand in my character. I'll be honest still temping even if I have to manually redo in a spreadsheet just to make it a bit easier and hopefully more likely to not have a screw-up on creating my character.
Just as a heads up yes if you purchase there is no way to get the information out electronically as they indent for it to be printed out.
