April 12th Update Info

Post by Marrkin » Wed Mar 23, 2016 6:37 pm

So, Bungie's Live-stream was today, and I took down a few notes real quick:

- Light Level Cap Raised to 335
- New Strike (not named or detailed) w/ new Taken Boss MALOK
- Prison of Elders has been upgraded for level 41 and now contains Taken enemies
- Re-vamped the original Winter's Run strike to now be inhabited by Taken enemies (Taken Archon Priest anyone?)
- Weekly Bounties for P.o.E.
- Challenge of the Elders: something to purchase from Variks.. sounds like a score modifying bounty for PoE on a weekly refresh (16 unique versions = 4 months of non-repeated requirement)
- Unique Questline and Reward for PS4 players
- Taken Shaders for Armor! (makes you look like a taken enemy  :rave:  )
- New Armor models
- Crucible Updates (not specified at this time)
- Unnamed quality of Life improvements
- Something called "Sterling Treasure" : no details on this
- Regular Bounties now apply in P.o.E.
- Engrams now drop in P.o.E.
- P.o.E. now has Checkpoints that allow you to leave and come back later (Like VOG raid!... FINALLY)

- POSSIBLE WEAPON SHADERS!!!

and the best part of all:

IT"S A FREE CONTENT UPDATE

I get that so much of this is soooo late in the age of this game, but it's at least in the right direction. Unfortunately it's just a stopgap for the lack of content, and folks are gonna burn through it just as fast as always. Regardless, I'm gonna check it out :rave:

Wait...you mean Midget and I won't be all alone?!?

It's funny, Midget and I were actually just talking Monday night about PoE and wanting to maybe go back and do it again. I didn't blow through all of the content, but in the next week and a half or so I had been planning on essentially finishing all the content. Get my last 2 exotic swords and Chaperone, finish the raid, clean up the last 7 or 8 quests I had left. I even have all but the last step of the Nightstalker PvP quest done for the emblem. Already finished all subclass PVP quests for my Warlock and Titan along with my Arcblade and Gunslinger side for my Hunter.

How much you want to bet that with no new raids that PoE is going to be the way to get 335 light gear...

Actually this was pretty much confirmed by Deej and whoever he was hosting the stream with if I'm not mistaken. they did mention that grinding POE should get you to an acceptable level to hit the level 41 version. I could be mistaken though since I'm listening at work and coulda missed something.

A lot of folks are pissed about it being a POE re-hash, but I actually always liked POE. There are other things they have not discussed of course, but this looks like some challenging-yet-fun information.

And I won't be on there fulltime, because I've only just begun my journey through The Division

Well I won't be journeying through the Division at all, so we'll see you when we see you. Didn't like it that much in beta and with losing my job I don't have the disposable income to invest in new games right now either.

Alright.. so a new stream today. I did not get to focus on it quite as much, but I do have a couple corrections and 1 bit of new info.

Correction: There are no PoE checkpoints.... while it was blurted out on the last stream, it turns out that is not correct.

Correction: Weapons will not have shaders, but instead a selectable/changeable appearance slot called "Chroma", which can make some highlight/pattern additions to yur weapon in White, Blue, Yellow, or Red. This will also be available on some of the new armors.

Addition: for the light increase to 335, they ran down a list of the possible ways to get 335 gear:

Kings Fall (Hard)
Iron Banner
Trials of Osiris
Strike Unique-Mob drops
Exotic Engram Decodes
Court of Oryx Artifacts (can't think off the top of my head what this is)
Challenge of the Elders completions

Also they have brought forward some of the Yr1 legendaries weapons to current levels (Swarm, The Comedian, Zombie Apoc, etc etc etc)

tons of new emotes

Prob some other stuff, but I didn't catch a lot of it.

Not happy with the lack of PoE checkpoints, but that is what it is.

I'm sure people are losing their shit in a bad way about them bringing forward some of that older gear, but I really liked some of the Y1 legendary weapons that went away. I'd LOVE to see a 335 The Devil You Know... Of course I'd still love to be able to bring up my Y1 legendary raid weapons...I still have all of my raid primaries in my vault...

I'll have to watch the stream later and catch a few more of those details you missed...

I'm also super excited that the 335 drops come from some places that will allow solo players to reach max light. Granted with RNG the chances are pretty damn thin, but at least we won't have to worry about pugging the crap out of the game to get max light.

I just reread the list and I just noticed something...there is a distinct lack of Nightfall rewards listed in how to get to 335.

I'm hoping that's an oversight, because the NF is supposed to be an end game small group activity and if you can't get anything more than 310 out of it there will be 0 reason to do it, not that there is much now anyway...but the point remains.

I do not recall the NF being mentioned, but it does need to be changed. I know many folks have been pretty vocal about it.

Another live-stream happened yesterday. It was the last one before the update rolls out. This one was almost all about weapons and PVP. I took some notes on some of the changes, but again it is nowhere near comprehensive:

Auto Rifles
- High R.o.F. AR's have had their base damage reduced
- Low R.o.F. AR's have had their base damage increased

Pulse Rifles
- Low R.o.F. Pulse Rifles have had their base damage increased

Hand Cannon
- Ammo Inventory has been increased

Fusion Rifles
- Stability has been increased across the board

Sniper Rifles
- Increased Zoom distance on all short-range scopes (to help eliminate quick scopes and point blank engagement)
- Added 2 Frames of 'zoom time' (to help eliminate quick scopes and point blank engagement)
- Reduced Stability
- Reduced "Snapshot" effectiveness from 30% to 20% (to help eliminate quick scopes and point blank engagement)

Scout Rifles
- Removing "High Caliber Rounds" perk from the MIDA multi-tool

Other Stuff
- Y2 Suros Regime: Delaying spool-up to the 4th round fired, and boosting effective range

- Hawkmoon: Increased Effective Range

- The Last Word: Reduction of damage from "The Last Word" weapon perk

- Thorn:
-- Will remain a Year 1 weapon
-- Minimized the DOT damage
-- Reduced the DOT from 6 ticks to 4 ticks
-- Reduced the 'intensity' of the DOT effect (i.e. the haze/blur/slow effects)

- Ice Breaker:
-- Will remain a Year 1 weapon
-- Reduced weapon handling
-- Increased zoom when ADS (to help eliminate quick scopes and point blank engagement)

This is all I could get from the stream... I actually started having network issues and was forced to close it out early.

One thing you did miss that I got from the notes on Reddit

The Shaxx-fall bounty - AKA the weekly bounties you get from Shaxx after you complete his PITA quest line can reward items up to 335 light.

Since this is supposed to pull from the same pool, or at least similar pool, as the Nightfall rewards come from I think it might be safe to assume they've addressed NF rewards as well. I'll definitely be running it the first few weeks to check.

This appears to be completely accurate info I got from Reddit.
Post update the new engram decrypting rules are in place, which are:
- Engrams now guaranteed to grant an item with Light value higher than players total Light
- Exotic Engrams now grant items up to 335 Light
- Non-Exotic Engrams now grant items up to 310 Light

So when decrypting check the new item and if it’s a higher light level for that slot either equip it if you can, or infuse it into something to bring your overall light level up.

Generally speaking you also want to decrypt engrams for your slots with your lowest light level items first, as this will help your overall average more than taking your highest item and increasing it.
I haven't been able to verify but supposedly Exotic Engrams will start at 320 as the lowest possible LL as well.
If Bungie keeps with their normal patters engrams decrypted after the update can decrypt to the new items.
Oh, and Xur is selling chest engrams this weekend... I'm going to buy some and decrypt them in hopes of getting a Twilight Garrison now and then save some others for Tuesday.

Full patch notes!
As I kinda predicted the NF is required doing every week now since you can get 330 rewards from it. Upping the suggested light to 320 makes sense given the rewards, but it means some of you slackers need to get grinding...
