They have confirmed that twi'lek+smuggler is going to be in the game. And as a SWG game you identified yourself as a twi'lek smuggler, even though smugglers didn't smuggle. And it is bioware promising story so at some point I got to think you willl have to smuggle something.

But you'd rather be something else here, even though the alignment seems to be independent of faction affiliation?

I wouldn't rule it out. Remember the religious aspect lore wise is Sith vs Jedi. The Empire the sith runs has agents, and BH are freelancers basically hired to help. Smuggler organizations are basically looking out for their survival against the Fascist Sith Empire (think how commerce was regulated in KOTOR) by going with the Republic since it wouldn't result in as harsh penalties for crime. I think as we get to post NDA beta, we will see you can be a criminal smuggler and still anti-sith.

Dev 1: "Lets make all race/class combination! So everyone can choose what they want and be anything. "
Dev 2: "Mandolorian armor would look odd with tentacles coming out though"
Dev 2: "and people will get confused as to whether the tentacles were the Sarlaccs or the twi'leks"
Dev 1: "Yeah, scratch the Twi'lek BH idea"

I definitely find the IA to be the most interesting class. Trooper is the only republic class that looks at all interesting to me. But atm I'm leaning towards IA.
