I would suggest for the moment while testing at least it might be good to set colors for each level, so we can know just by glance what forums permissions we should have so we can see if they are off or not.

Well the say I set it up was a series of overlapping privileges and the ability to be in multiple groups.

Like Furiel is currently in Registered Users (all of the Public Square, no poll making purpose) and Cardinals (sees everything and has poll making privileges....yes all Alvians have the ability to play with polls). Gandolfini has most groups listed as a member.

But I will see what I can do about colors.

Why have people be in multiple permission groups? To me people should just be in 1 group, and just tier out the permissions by the function of that group. It'll make management alot easier. For groups I'd suggest

Friends of Alivs - public forums only
Allies of Alvis - public forums and shared raid forums
Altersquids - public forums and Pub
Priests and Deacons- Public and all of church
Bishop – public, church and basilica
Cardinals – public, church and basilica with mod rights

Good news everyone!

So I figured out how to make the different ranks different colors, and make sure you can still belong to multiple groups.

So my plan was basically just have everybody join every group along the ladder until they reached the right rank:
Registerd User->Friends of Alvis->Altarsquids->Priests->Bishops->Cardinals

And you can set the default group (which determines color) by person. So Gandolfini has several groups which he is currently a member. I set his default group to Altarsquid even though he is member to the priest and cardinal groups as well. In theory that should mean his name is green, but he can still see all the forums.

The multiple groups was just the way I set it up, we can always remove them from groups, and they always get to see/post on their most permissive setting for any given forum. There are functions which allow (if I'm reading this right) for you to send PMs or emails to whole user groups, so having all cardinals in the altarsquid pool means you can get the widest exposure off one email instead of repeating the same email group by group. Also thanks for reminding me about deacons.

Also don't worry about mod rights yet, let's just get viewing posting permissions settled, then we can do mod stuff on the far end. When you say Bishops should have access to the Basillica are you thinking read only access or posting rights too?

Posting too because if they are going to be assisting the cardinals with tasks they need the ability to acknowledge and give feedback on those tasks in a more private setting.

Do we need a Cardinals only forum then?

Depends on what permission levels you can set and what you mean by forum. Like in EQ we have a subforum of the officer forums that is used for officer and elite discussion. The rest of the officer forum(s) are hidden from the elites. So working off that structure then we probably either need 1 more forum in the basilica for officer and bishop discussion.

Well basically the structure for the Basillica is currently all or nothing, but making it like the church wouldn't be hard at all. For example:

2.0 Church
2.1 The Pub is used by: Friends of Alvis(you refer to them as Allies), Altarsquids, Deacons, Priests, bishops and Cardinals
2.2 Sunday School is used by: Altarsquids, Deacons, priests, bishops and Cardinals
2.3 The Church is Used by: Deacons, priests, bishops and Cardinals
2.4 The Monestary is read only for Deacons but usable by priests, bishops and Cardinals

So you could have the College of Cardinals just be cardinals, but make an Abbey which is Bishops and Cardinals.

Adding the Abbey unless you have a better name for it.
