In the effort to prevent the debate about which color is proper to highlight (red or yellow) I think we should set out and try for a common forum theme setting for this forum.
So we need to figure out what sort of general color palette we want to use. Do we want darker colors, lighter colors, fancy graphical ornamentation or keep it more minimal. Another option is to have two available themes using the same basic color sets, one that is fancy and has lots of graphics like this:
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/CA+Orbital
And then have a more minimal one for folks at work who may want something that doesn't stand out so much like
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/CA+Black
Both dark colors, and we can customize each to keep it more or less consistent.
Feel free to post links to themes you like that you may find.

I'm not a fan of the 'dark' themes. can we at least have a light theme available as an option for those of us who look at work?

Well that basically gets us back to the light themed folks using THIS METHOD to the annoyance of the dark themed people who use THIS METHOD. I was hoping we could not have that problem anymore.Bulwark wrote:I'm not a fan of the 'dark' themes. can we at least have a light theme available as an option for those of us who look at work?

Arguably that is bad on both general directions we are thinking of going.

Re: Themes/template/style
Is this debate just for the default theme?
I don't really see why it matters if we have a few other themes people can use if they don't like the default.
I also like http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/CA+Black personally.

Re: Themes/template/style
Maybe the right solution is to just disable color font. Let's see if I can do that.

Re: Themes/template/style
Is there a way to allow me to show 50+ messages per page for a thread? I hate having to click the next page button, I'm entirely too lazy to do that.
Re: Themes/template/style
I'm a fan of Orbital.
Re: Themes/template/style
I like these:
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/Cerulean - Reminds me of old forums.
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/DarkFantasy - Maybe my favorite of all that I've seen. (Aside from the little pixie in the corner.)
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/AeroBlue - Simple, but I like it.
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/CoDFaction - Like this without the CoD banner.

Re: Themes/template/style
I upped it from 10 to 25. Let's see how that goes before going to 50. I can't seem to find a way to make it a user choice atm. (probably have to mod that too)Kitoshi wrote:Is there a way to allow me to show 50+ messages per page for a thread? I hate having to click the next page button, I'm entirely too lazy to do that.

Ah okay sweet. It was a user setting on other forums I've used, so it probably is a mod.

Re: Themes/template/style
I liked AeroBlue.
Also ones I'm keen on
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/CA+Black (as I linked above)
http://demo.phpbb3styles.net/SE+Square+Left (very simple design)
New site
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=58 (the corners felt sort of starwarsy)
http://www.phpbb.com/styles/demo/3.0/?style_id=895 (the faint background image could be cool)

Re: Themes/template/style
Has anyone downloaded the SW:ToR fansite kit from BioWare and checked out what options it has for our forums, style sheets, etc?

Re: Themes/template/style
I like the black / darker backgrounds. It let's the fonts read more, even if the background is more a starry background. Maybe a beefier / thicker font would help?

The fankit I saw SirP link on the old boards was mostly art (like our background image off the main site, and our avatars). I'll upload it all this weekend and that way we can all grab copy paste etc etc to gimp etc etc.

Re: Themes/template/style
I think I found a mobile friendly theme. I'm gonna install it tomorrow and play around on my droid after I do. I'll need an iFanboi to test that out as well. I'll keep you guys updated on my progress.
