Well the white block in the center is fixed it will only expand so far, and I did that because testing the fluid/dynamic option (ie expand to the size of the browser) made the sidebars look really bad). So if you have some super large resolution it will probbaly always look kinda spacey on the sides.Kitoshi wrote:Looks the same to me, but I figured it was like that for monitor scaling. I think it's looking really good.

The header on the forums should link you back to our home page, not to the forum index, that would also allow you to remove the home button, which could cause people to be confused.
That would seem to me at least to be a more intuitive navigation process than what we have now.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
Not sure how I do that yet, but that is ultimately where I'd like to head it. Also I was thinking of changing the PHPBB3 style for something that is black and white similar to the blog theme.Furiel wrote:The header on the forums should link you back to our home page, not to the forum index, that would also allow you to remove the home button, which could cause people to be confused.

edit: bookmarking these themes as possibilities.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
Update on header going to blog:
The Good: I found in the CSS where to change the target of the link
The Bad: I did it and while looking at the main board index it was fine, but if you went into any subforum it was all screwed up.
The Ugly: So I just changed the previous "Home" link to the blog to now say "Blog". Not the ideal solution, but it will have to do until I figure out a better way to make it right.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
Okay so I am finally happyish with the logo (the clickable part that says church of alvis) and the size of jedi & co on the front page.
Jess and I are having a discussion about what people should see when the type in www.thechurchofalvis.com
option 1: the top post is always the most recent post we have written
option 2: a welcome page that explains who we are, where to look about applications, rules etc etc (this would be separate from the navigation bar more like a letter)
option 3: a static post that covers much of option 2 that is always the top post on the blog, but it is truncated and then the next post down is the latest post we've done.
We are pretty sure that any of these options are viable, but I want input from you guys.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
I've installed some new board styles. The ones noted above. I have not tweaked them at all so the link back to the blog and the header image will not appear in them.
Ultimately I'd like to pick one that would best work with the visual style of the blog. And I hope to learn how to chop off the top header of the forums and make it match the top image/look of the blog so even though they are separate programs they have a fluid visual style. Try out the new themes and let me know which ones you guys think works best stylistically with the feel of the blog.
Obviously I am not replacing tapatalk for the mobile theme at this time.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
Update: I have made the Church logo at the top of the page on prosilver (the default theme currently) link to the front page and I think I did so without borking up the forums. I'm gonna leave it up like that for a few days to see if you guys experience any problems.

Also kitoshi I see that you tried out IDLaunch_Black and got a few errors. You may not have even noticed because it was probably stuff like the reply button was a link instead of an image. I fixed the error on that so go back and look again to see if it corrected.

Yeah I didn't even notice. But the reply button is still just a link.

Everythings looking good so far, I have one comment-
the image on the top of the forums says:
'the church of alvis
home of the drunken and vengeful'
The text title under it says
'the church of alvis
home for the drunk and the vengeful'
I think this should be coordinated one way or the other.
Once I get some more free time I'll surf around and see if I have any other comments.

And Blog has yet another variation. I'll work to consolidate them into a common thing once we nail down forum themes.Vespasian wrote:Everythings looking good so far, I have one comment-

As an exercise in modifying the css for the forum, if you view the forum in Prosilver you should see your complaint properly addressed.Vespasian wrote:Everythings looking good so far, I have one comment-

I meant complaint in the most loving of terms. I want the site have a degree of polish so observations of imperfections in presentation are welcome.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
Okay, I've got the new images up on my PhotoBucket.
I changed the text for the forum banner to "Drunk and Vengeful" and uploaded that.
I made a new blog_header image for the main site, the one with the ship. Kept the same font and style as everything else.
Background is a tile-able star field which I was going to try to animate as a gif (a few stars twinkle occasionally, or go into hyperspace for a while then drop out) but I got called to work today on my day off and didn't have the time to mess with it, though I may sometime later.
If you need anything else modified, or something else, let me know.

Re: I'm screwing around with the main page
Oh I am pretty sure someone here will want to kiss me on the mouth with tongue for figuring this out:
http://www.thechurchofalvis.com/forum-test/
WAY rough draft, but essentially it will put the forum INTO a webpage on the blog. which means that 1) the top navigation bar will be universally viewable 2)If we change the blog header image and background it will be built around the forums (ie one stop shopping on cosmetic changes)
Tomorrow I'm going to make a headerless phpbb3 style which will autosize to fit in the blog webspace for a more polished look.

Yeah, but it cuts off the right side a bit. Also, what's with the blank blue bar up along the top....
