A Dance with Dragons - discussion thread

Post by Cuspar » Wed Jun 22, 2011 4:37 pm

Here's a thread for the GRRM-holics to discuss the upcoming 5th volume of the epic Song of Ice and Fire.

For safety's sake, and to not spoil anything for readers, use the spoiler tag, or die!

BUT: preface your spoiler-tagged post with:

Chapter X

This way, people can read discussion relating to chapters they've already read, but not get slapped in the face with something insane that happens in the next chapter...

Someone's a little anal, thinking we're going to post in certain places at certain times.

Yeah, I called you anal, want to fight about it?

180 copies erroneously sent out. Spoilers apparently floating around. Be very careful. I am limiting myself to essential internet sites only until then. (This is an essential site.)

It's waiting for me on my nook. Alas, I'm in the midst of my last course (capstone), which is taking all of my time. So, I won't be able to start reading it until after I graduate in August.

It was beckoning quite seductively last night at 12am central. But, Administrative Policy and Strategy reared its ugly head and demanded I peruse the GMID for major economic deltas. Bleh

Spoiler - Reek (I)
Spoiler:
Who are the two lords eating with Ramsay Bolton when they bring Reek forward? They recognize that he's Theon, and the lord in the "mail byrnie" knows Arya's nicknames...

I feel like Book 3 was the best, and I felt underwhelmed by Book 4 BUT when you get towards the end of Book 5, Book 4 starts to make a lot of sense and be more awesome retrospectively.

Spoiler:
I'm about 300 pages into book 5. One thing confuses me (its been years since I read book 4). Didn't Sam and Aemon leave Castle Black in book 4? I vaguely remember Arya seeing him.
I thought 2 and 3 were equally good. 4 was kinda meh (best title though).

Kinda like how Episode 1 didn't make sense until you watched episode 3 and ...no wait, it still sucked. :woe:

Re: Sam and Aemon
Spoiler:
Book 5 starts BEFORE the point in Book 4 where they leave, albeit from different POVs. As Book 5 progresses, the timeframe becomes clearer.

Thats what I assumed from Martin's explanation of the timeline. My memory was foggy and I didn't realize he was covering old material from different POVs. Thanks for clearing that up.

The book is shaping up quite nicely. And, now that I am DONE WITH COLLEGE!!!!!!!!!!!! I can really dive into it.
